ISDS 725 walked through some exercises in R but it was definitely more of "here is what R can do" kind of lessons than one having to learn/know it well.

I know alot of people who are complaining about the construct and instruction of that course, but did you find it valuable as learning something you may not otherwise have learned or furthered your knowledge base? I am currently registered for it but with the bad press on it, having second thoughts.

Why in the world is this being downvoted?

Ignore it. It's trolls. I've asked that question before. Seems people are directed here from the FB group and tend to be opinionated.

Hi Conscious Gal, how did the pairing of MADM701 & MKT701 go? I have that same combo for Spring AP1 and the advisor or whoever she was said those were the 2 most time-consuming classes and advised against taking them together. So now I'm a little nervous :/

It depends on who your professors are for both of these courses but MADM 701 consisted of 7 current event papers, 7 exams & 4 discussion questions. MKT 701 consisted of 7 discussion questions, 3 case study write ups & 3 exams.

To me, these courses taken together were not as time consuming as I initially thought they would be. On week 1, I focused on the 1st current event paper from MADM 701, the exam & the 1st discussion question in MKT 701. It was like 1 class all together with the amount of work I did each week. I also was travelling during 1 week & did not fall behind at all. I think it all depends on how you are with completing your work. I usually do all my assignments/exams early in the week to avoid procrastination. A little bit about me: I have a flexible full time job at a well known IT company in the bay area (I can do assignments in the office, take exams, etc.), I travel at least 6 times a year for work conferences & fun :) & I have no kids so what worked for me may not work for you but if you stay focused, you can complete both of those classes without them being too "time consuming" for you.
I received an A & a B in both of these classes respectively so in the end, it all really does depend on you. I have been taking 2 classes each session since I started in May of this year & I have earned 4 A's & 4 B's in all 8 of the classes I have taken so far. I have my last 2 classes left in Spring session 1 & then I will be graduating in May 2020

Who are you taking for MKT 701? I just finished that course and didn’t find it overwhelming. I paired it with ISDS 710 and got As in both classes.

I received the same advice, but found MKT701 with Darrat a perfect course to pair with something else. Workload was manageable, only three tests and very doable writing assignments. MADM701, on the other hand. Wow. Extraordinarily time-consuming and an incredibly frustrating experience (even though I earned an A). In fact, MADM701 was the second worst experience of my entire collegiate career (undergraduate, previous graduate school in-class program and now this online MBA). The only thing worse was a Physics class I took as a freshman with no background in it. This was nearly as bad.

I've heard mixed reports on Vines - he has a 3.8 overall ranking on ratemyprofessor.com (you have to take some of these ratings with a grain of salt, though), but I ended up taking Lynn Kendall (she has a 4.4 ranking on that site). I managed to earn a B in the class with no finance background whatsoever. She's a very involved teacher for an online course and even though I got a B, I appreciated her input. The course was difficult for me, but she posts weekly videos, supplementary material and exams are open book. The final is a bear because it's comprehensive, but even if you have no background in finance you should at least manage to make a B in this course, quite possibly an A. If you have a background in finance, this should be a fairly straightforward class for you.

I have taken 2 courses with Dr. McLaughlin and I wish that she taught additional courses. Each week there will be a current events paper to write plus a weekly exam. Providing that you read the text material ( Approximately 28 to 50 pages / week ) you will be fine. All of her exams are closed notes. Just finished up Finance with Dr Vines. If you all need a great prof. for finance take him !

I am just about finished with my MBA online from LSUS and since it is an accredited school I get the same benefits that I would have received elsewhere PLUS I have saved a ton of dollars. I have been doing 1 class at a time as I am a 53 yr old business exec who travels for work plus coaches and officiates on the side. I have averaged around 24 hrs per week on each course and carry a 3.8 average. If you have the extra time to spend then go for the 2 courses at a time. It all depends on what time allowances you have. Hope this helps !

I took Minseong Kim and I absolutely loved the class. He gave us extra credit opportunities by submitting our study guides for the exams and easy discussion posts. It was one of the better classes I have taken and the workload wasn’t bad at all. 10 total discussion posts, 3 exams, and 2 case studies that he provides the outline for. He also uploads the case studies at the beginning of the semester so you have plenty of time.

Signing up for Fall 2019 and noticed Ahmet Koksal will be teaching MKT 701. Based on his good reviews for ISDS 702 (which I’ll be taking Summer AP2), I’m hoping this will be a straightforward class with no busy work.

Any more feedback on Koksal, especially for MKT701?

Thank you so much for this detailed answer! I have Erin McLaughlin for MADM760 and Imran Khan for MKT701, did you have either of them?

I probably won't be able to do much during my working hours, and my kids are old now so I don't have to take care of them and my mornings/evenings/weekends are free. I like to get things done on the front end, so I'm pretty sure I'll be ok.

I'm also relieved to hear you took 2 classes per session while working FT, the person I spoke with said this was also discouraged. I'm probablyyyyyyy older than the average student haha so less responsibilities, I guess they have to say that so people are prepared for the work.

Thanks again! Your answer was really encouraging

Hi Duke! I'm taking Imran Khan--I've read good things about him, but by the time I registered there were very few classes left so I was going to take him no matter what haha. Who did you have?

Edit--just saw your answer up there...thanks for the info! :)

pairing of MADM701 & MKT701

I’m sure things look a lot different from my 2015 program, but I’d advise against these two together. It’ll be a rough 7 weeks but not the end of the world.

Again, probably fairly different now, but I’d try pairing MKT701 with something like ACCT if with anything.
