Technically, we're paying to "borrow" LSUS's accreditation in the context of being evaluated on the completion of content in a free course that we wouldn't otherwise get any kind of credit/degree/certification for.

That's a great point. On the plus side, if Getitdone puts himself through the free course, he technically took the class as well, albeit an earlier version of it.

Perhaps he can at least feel better about writing "Data Analytics" on his resume. While I'm rather unimpressed with the setup of the class, it still seems better than the previous version so far, and the teacher is at least highly responsive on forums. Of course, he doesn't have much to do for the class aside from responding to forums, I suppose...

Perhaps not the best format for ISDS 710, but at least it appears to be evolving into something better. I'm still somewhat bitter about Lin's ISDS 705 with the ProctorU tests from the previous format. If the teacher is going to be completely absent and testing on meaningless trivia-level questions and definitions from a severely outdated text, at least keep the open book format, lol! It wasn't much work, but the fact that I actually had to put in a little work for such an utterly meaningless class really annoyed me.

Yes... I've already had two months to get past it and I still haven't put it behind me. I might always be bitter about that class which I would put BELOW my MIS 101 class from like... 25 years ago.

Sorry...the following message was a response for those in MADM 720 commenting on the leadership profile.
Is it still Monday? Can't get anything right. lol

Note from a procrastinator... DO NOT procrastinate on the leadership skills test and leave them all for the end. ;)

I actually enjoyed MADM 720, lol.
Though it prompted me to take a break.
Now I'm back.

GOOD LUCK!

As of Spring 2019, all 7 Core classes are going to be offered every section.

I have to agree here, the workload in Meek's MADM 760 is a lot higher than I anticipated. About 70 pages of reading, Almost two hours of "required" videos to watch, a quiz, a weekly writing assignment, a group writing assignment, and a group video each week. Then a group term project and an individual term project. I'd say that qualifies as the same workload or more than James' MKT 701.

Ive managed to stay up with it all, but my weekends are basically all gone

Yep...I’d really like to see how I did, I don’t want to do the same thing I did last week and get hammered on it later. Sort of frustrating, she shuts the modules down so you can’t see what exact assignment got graded.

First time I've seen this. I'm hoping this is a Moodle configuration error and things will become visible again.

Planning my Spring schedule...

After reading a few things about 702 vs 705, I'm thinking 702 with Koskal for AP1 (I don't have a strong background in coding or statistics). Though Lin is teaching 705 and I've heard great things about him as well.
That leaves my other options for AP2 as MADM 760 (Heller), ACCT 701 (Huang) or FIN 701 (Choi).
I know that Shaugnessy and Vines are preferred, but I haven't heard anything about those that are teaching core classes in AP2.

Any input on Heller, Huang or Choi?

The "great things" about Lin are not related to the man as much as the format he used to run the class in, which has now changed.

Looks like Dr. Williams has sent out Sigma Iota Epsilon invites for Fall AP2 graduates.

I also received a Beta Gamma Sigma invite from Dr. Darrat.

Anyone else on the fence about whether to join one of these at all and if so which one are you leaning toward?

^^^ Perfect... I think I saw a note to changes.
I'll stick with Koskal for 702.
THANKS!

705 is an easily pairable class. I’d definitely take it with Gibbs. 702 is a really engaging and interesting class, I enjoyed it a lot. I took it alone since the format was still a little wishy washy but I could have done something with it.

Thanks for your insight Glinda. Unfortunately, I cannot take two classes at a time (only one per AP session) B/t single mom, full-time job, trying to change careers, and a house & dog... lol I've got to keep the schedule light or I would completely loose my sanity. lmao! Not to mention, the snow is about to fly and I am still thinking of teaching skiing this winter. ???

As I've read back several pages from Fall Semester (of which I sat out in attempt to breathe for a moment). I've noticed several new faces since I hung out here over summer.
Happy to see more feedback and people. The program must be gaining popularity with the increase in course offerings this Spring, YA'AY!!!!

I thought I'd share something that took me a bit to learn (okay, so maybe I'm a little slow ;) )
(how to see who is teaching a course ahead of registration).

Go to Homepage (LSUS.edu)
Under Quick Links (top right of screen)
>>> "Class Schedule"

Each time you search a new class you need to be certain that you select the correct term.

Hope this helps some of you as you get ready to register for Spring 2019 on Monday.

Those of you that are almost done with the program... CONGRATS!!!!! Your patience and diligence (and frustrations along the way) have paid off :)

It's all about perspective.

If Lin structured ISDS 705 like Koksal structures ISDS 702 (a weekly video lecture, relevant content, optional discussion and interaction around the week's topics, and Proctorio instead of the abomination that is ProctorU) it would be a much more valuable course. I think the workload of ISDS 705 with Lin was ideal, but the level of interaction, the extremely high level of the content, and the proctoring used was not. I'm pretty sure my 10-year-old daughter could pass the class based on the level of content.

ISDS 702 with Koksal is an amazing class. Koksal has been one of my favorite instructors. He makes statistics very unintimidating, and in my opinion, it should be a required prerequisite for ECON 750 and ISDS 710.

Based on what I've heard, I would still prefer ISDS 705 with Lin over other options. Yes, the material is high school level, and Lin may be a robot that does not actually exist, and ProctorU is a terrible experience. It's still worth taking since the class is so light on workload that it is the best class to pair with the monsters of MKT 701 and MADM 760.

I got my SIE invite earlier this week. I've already joined BGS and plan on joining SIE as well.

It has now become clear to me that LSUS dangled a carrot called "Data Analytics Concentration" to attract people to the program. I was one of the suckers. They were not prepared to offer the Data Analytics course, and the students paid full course tuition to be the losers here with no acknowledgement from the school/professor.

I think if I had to do this all again I would have picked a different concentration. That's mainly because I have an undergrad CS degree and having "Data Analytics" next to my MBA on my resume seems to negate the words "Business Administration" when talking to potential employers about C-level roles. The Entrepreneurial track, Finance track, or just taking general electives would have been more relevant to my goals.

Adding on to your comments: HCAD 750 is way too specialized in healthcare to be considered "Data Analytics," it's a healthcare IT course with pretty much no Data Analytics content. ISDS 702 should be a core class, not an elective. ISDS 710 is finally a class that's actually about Data Analytics, but it's not fully baked. Like you said, it's there to attract people interested in the new IT hotness but doesn't actually teach you very much.
