Excellent take on ECON, BusinessKnight and spot on.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Hopefully you are all taking a break from schoolwork today to enjoy some food and fun.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Just wanted to ask a question that is asked everyday and has probably been answered a thousand times. However, I am in ISDS 705 and took it as my first class. I work full time and was curious about taking two classes next. If you'd recommend any two classes to take together (from experience) id really appreciate it. I will be open to taking 1 as well. I will also be grateful to hear about a good one class schedule. Thank you all.

I would say that ECON has a small amount of Excel work. Mostly it's just taking a couple of data sets and using the Analysis toolpak to run a linear regression to identify the coefficients for some very basic polynomial formulas. There is even a tutorial provided on how to do this.
Regarding the level of calculus, it is trivial. It is doing a couple of derivatives of simple polynomial equations. E.g. f(x) = 5x^2+12x so f'(x) = 10x + 12. Essentially, taking the power multiply by the coefficient and then reduce the power level by 1. The derivative of a function is the rate of change for that function, or the slope, at every point on the curve. There you go, all the calculus you need for ECON.
The biggest challenge on the math side for ECON is to be able to look at 3-4 related functions and understand the relationships between them all and how you can use the values you have for some variables to solve for other variables based on those functions.

Hi, I just registered for FIN701 and MADM710 (spring2018, AP1), so I am a bit concerned, did I paired well? I know about a lot of writing for MADM710, but I guess he couldn't be worst then Felice W? Also, does anyone know if FIN701 use Proctorio or ProctorU? Thanks

@ Mr_Aussie
I haven't taken MADM710 hence will skip that. In terms of FIN701 if you have a finance background and know excel it will help, professor is great and you will learn a lot but you might have to put more time based on your level of understanding, this exam is not proctored but timed, 4 Tests, 10 questions each - 50/60 mins time allowed. focus on reading guide & attend Zoom session that the professor provides and you should be good.

@BusinessKnight Great take on ECON and ISDS. I agree completely

Does anyone have any insight on MADM 715? It’s Labor and Employment Law taught by Amy Wren. Thinking about taking it instead of HCAD 750. Any info is greatly appreciated. TIA!

Jeaux Cool,
I liked MADM715 and have often had to use what I learned at work. You have to read and study but no real busy work other than a virtual presentation. 2 chapters to read / week with a quiz administered through McGraw Hill Connect and graded for completion only. A weekly exam that is proctored via proctorio. The exams are tough but should be able to get an A if read the material, take notes, and study.

What can you tell me about this virtual presentation? Is it just a PPT that you submit to her or what? Weighing my options of taking this over HCAD 750

Any specific reason why you might be reconsidering?

I'm still doing Data Analytics. The specialization doesn't require HCAD 750, just ISDS 710 and ISDS 702 with a free elective. Wanted to get some opinions on MADM 715 just to be safe

I'm still under the concentration as of now, but want to keep my options open. Would rather take a course that others have information on instead of an unknown course taught by a professor with terrible reviews.

When I took it was a PPT presentation with voice recording followed by a short video of yourself (a minute or two) answering a couple of questions... I think they were "Why did you chose this topic?" and "What did you learn from your research?" or something similar.

Forgot you were taking that this session GSMBA16. How bad is it?

Registered for ACCT 701 and MADM 760 for spring AP1. Taking MKT 701 alone spring AP2. Any comments, concerns, suggestions? TIA!!

ACCT and MADM 760 are definitely pairable. MADM is a bit of reading and a decent amount of writing. It's a great course to take. Meeks may be the best professor in the program. ACCT isn't bad either. The tests were straight from the textbook. The midterm and final were a bit tougher that the tests but that should be fine pairing those. Ambrosio is very helpful so if you have any questions just reach out to him. As far as MKT goes, I'm sure you'll have Karen James and I'm no help there. I had Darrat AP1 and his format is significantly different than hers. Search the board and see what others have said about it.
