Mississippi is about to nominate a republican that could quite easily lose to a democrat in November and cost the GOP control of Congress. Brilliant.

I'm sure that's exactly what they're thinking about when they place their vote

Mississippi. She's hard to love sometimes.
Can't believe that this race is even close, now it looks like we are going to put this slimy tea party lawyer up against a democrat that to people like me, looks like the better choice.
The book of faces has told me that for the most part:
educated conservatives: Cochran
redneck hick conservatives: McDaniel
How the holy hell can a guy get up and say he wants to take $1.5 billion from education in Mississippi and still be in the race, much less win it.

people bitch about the elites and how there is no difference between GOP and Dems, but don't let an outsider step up to the plate

frick him. Time to go...PAST time, actually.
And, that ridiculous "can't vote him out because...leadership / control...bullshite is one reason incumbents are more difficult to get rid of than toenail fungus.
I have about as much "love" for them, too.

In this thread: 2 people who believe in career, lifelong politicians who have a right to their seats and not to be challenged
Can you please tell me how Cochran is any different than a democrat? He is a career politician who has voted multiple times for runaway spending and bloated, centralized government in Washington.
The fact he is bankrolled by hacks like Haley Barbour and the D.C. establishment(clowns like Rove, McConnell, etc.) makes him all the more evil.

I'll note that polling is screwy in primary races to begin with. Runoffs, even moreso.
I figure McDaniel will win because his voters are a lot more dedicated than Cochran's, but I figure Cochran will stoop as low as he has to in order to pull out a win here.
If the rumors reported by the head of the MS Dems are true, he's spread a lot of "walking around money" to black power brokers to "get out the vote" for him, mainly because turnout in the ultra-poor and ultra-Dem Delta will likely make or break him.

Ms won't elect a democrat. I'd be shocked to see that happen

Actually it goes like this:
Conservatives: McDaniel
Moderates and Democrats: Cochran
No conservative would vote for Cochran, because Cochran ISNT CONSERVATIVE

These so called educated conservatives would put someone in office who Harvard Business school has proven hurts MS businesses?

I mean, here's the deal. The vote is between a career politician and a future career politician. You're dreaming if you believe a junior senator from Mississippi is going to have a chance to make any changes.
Alabama is watching this race closely. If Cochran is defeated, no one benefits more than the state of Alabama.

The argument that if we don't spend it someone else will is terrible and it sounds like the damn democratic party. How about instead of spending it we cut taxes by that much and keep the money in the hands of people who actually earned it. I know that's extremist for wealth redistributionist.

So Alabama gets more pork based off MS's decision.
I love watching this race for these mental gymnastics. I have no illusions this McD guy may be a POS, but the arguments for Cochran have really shown who is a pork slopping big government "conservative." No one wants to "go first" in curbing government spending and over reach.
Growing up in MS, I would mention 90% of the state was liberal, just liberal for different causes.
Looks like that was correct

If it is change you are after, let me give you some idea of odds of seeing positive changes:
Cochran : 0%
McDaniel: 5%.
While he may be fighting an uphill battle in Washington, anything is more than what Cochran offers.
The goal here is to show other states and establishment Republicans that change can happen.
Sure, Alabama can have a shot at steering more money to their state. Let them. Someone has to stop the selfishness. You can argue that it will hurt our state. That we will lose money because of it. We may miss out on some funding, but that will not hurt us. We will be damaged more by continuing to dig this hole we are in.
The day that McDaniel becomes part of the problem, screw him. Lets vote his arse out then.

The problem with America... right here folks.
And why this redneck hick is voting McDaniel.

I'm proud as hell of Mississippi for taking the lead in running off the political leeches that have infested Washington for decades. Would be nice if others did the same.
Many want new blood in Washington but don't have the stones to make it happen.

The blatant hypocrisy of some so-called conservatives astounds me. We hound Democrats for buying certain voting blocks, yet the reason to vote for Thad is so we can be blessed with a little more from our federal masters. We lament the welfare state and people on the dole, yet "Vote for Thad" so Mississippi doesn't lose out on more pork spending "for Mississippians." The only Mississippians benefiting are government contractors, K-Street lobbyists and those with a last name of Barbour.
Don't claim to be a conservative if you aren't conservative. Don't charge Dem's with expanding the welfare state when that's exactly what you are voting for. You're a conservative, unless it applies to you. That means you're a hypocrite.
