On this board it may not be hated but its not highly regarded either.

Right so the premise is off.

But this is the 918th time people feel MoS or DC in general are "hated," "reviled," "disaster."

Hyperbole.

And there's this:
7.3/10-IMDb
56%-Rotten Tomatoes
55%-Metacritic

Not really great reactions from critics either.

I loved it bc it was finally a superman movie without the campiness. It was violent and kind of gritty.

There is a space between campy and "violent and gritty," that Superman can occupy. It took itself too seriously, which is part of the reason why the criticisms are quite valid. It THINKS it's a serious film with a great narrative arc and character development. But it doesn't end up that way.

I think this was my major problem with the movie, and why it bored the hell out of me. It wasn't bad, it just took itself way too seriously. I'm not saying it has to be a campy superhero movie, but I didn't have any "fun" watching this movie. Perhaps that's a problem with my expectations, but I really wanted to like Man of Steel.

Zod was definitely the best character in the film.

I guess. But MoS didn't try to be over the top gritty and serious like Batman. It took a more Xmen feel, which I don't mind. I realize an Avengers tone is preferred with many and would've worked well too and would've given it some humor.
