They did not get the respect they deserved (I guess that's the same thing). In magazines, press or to the metal crowd in general.

Vio-Lence Best known as the former band of Rob Flynn and Phil Demmel of Machinehead, these guys were a great 80s thrash band. Yes I know the vocals are god awful, even by thrash standards.
Armored Saint Old band of John Bush, who did vocals on Anthrax's best album Sound of White Noise. They were doing groove metal like Pantera and other 90s bands in the early 80s.
Grief Raw, dirty, sludge like EHG. One of the few bands that can match EHG's level of nihilism in this genre.
Crisis Their singer lead the way for women in metal. She can do harsh vocals and clean vocals and is actually good at it. Bands like In This Moment and most other female fronted metal bands are just a cheap imitation. The band is really good too.
Fun Fact: I saw Crisis in Breaux Bridge in 1998. I stood by Caryn the whole show. She's about 4 feet tall.

Never heard of any of those

Never heard of any of those either

I've heard of but not heard most of them
Armored Saint was not totally ignored back in the day.
The Sound Of White Noise is most definitely the best Anthrax album. It one of my all time favorites by any band.

Just saw your follow-up...
Given that, Testament doesn't qualify...however, they are still a tremendously underrated metal band.

Some from back in the day, although nowadays they might not be considered metal.
Demon---Don't Break The Circle
Samson (w/Bruce Dickinson)---Riding With The Angels

this isn't as much a "pure" metal pick as what's been listed already, but UFO seemingly always flew under the radar (so to speak) over the years & never got their proper due. most of the albums with michael schenker are solid, and even the paul chapman albums are mostly good IMO. like most older bands, the later stuff can be hit-or-miss, but they had a great run of albums when they were in their musical prime....
and i guess an obvious answer (at least in the US) would be motorhead. sure, everyone knows who lemmy is by now...but at the end of the day, he became more "fascinating character study" than "frontman of successful band"...

Would Clutch qualify?
If so, then Clutch.
If not, still Clutch.

Love'em. The Schenker years were fantastic.

All of them? Considering bands like Iron Maiden , Pantera , Judas Priest are all excluded from the RnR HOF while every 80s hair band is included...

personally, IMO the RARHOF is a joke. the spectrum ranging from casual fans to so-called pretentious snobs can at least (mostly) agree on that. FWIW, that's not an attack on the bands themselves who were already inducted....

the scorpions? they were pretty big when i was growing up, even saw them play a sold-out arena show in the 80's....hell, they even headlined a shed tour with deep purple & dio in the early 2000's. i'd say they got more due than most, at least at certain points in their career....

I don't think the musicians see it that way though. I think most consider it a big honor. One need to look no further than this year's Ceremony/performances to see that.

i'm sure the musicians appreciate the recognition...but considering many of 'em can't even afford to bring guests (as if none of 'em have families beyond the +1) to their own induction (i forgot how much the HOF charges, but it was a ridiculous number in the thousands), i know all i need to know about that organization...
