In 2002-03, Musselman was second in NBA Coach of the Year voting (to Gregg Popovich) as he led the Warriors to their two best seasons in 10 years, including a 51-31 home record. The Warriors were the most improved team in the league with 17 more wins.
quote:
He earned Coach of the Year honors with the D-Fenders in 2012 as his team has eight NBA call-ups and won the regular season title with a 38-12 record, including wins in 21 of the final 23 games.
quote:
Musselman’s winning percentage of 68.8 percent in the CBA is the second-best winning percentage in the history of the league behind only George Karl. His teams won six division titles and reached the postseason in each of his seven seasons. A total of 24 of his players eventually reached the NBA. He was named CBA all-star coach five times. His overall head coaching record is 506-296.
quote:
Musselman’s resume’ also includes successful stints as head coach with the Dominican Republic National Team (2010-11); The US and Team China in the Adidas Global Experience (2009, 2010) and the Venezuela National Team (2012-13).
I mean, he's not Phil Jackson, but I think he's had great success in his career.

the only reason why this guy isn't an NBA lead assistant at the bare minimum is because of his rep for partying. No idea if it is still the case, but these days, coaches with that rep like Eustachy and Snyder don't get second chances immediately. Of course they then prove their quality almost immediately once they are given a chance.
He's gonna fit in great in BR.

Getting young players in the college ranks ready for the next level, is a process that has Musselman excited. He explained this notion to RidiculousUpside.com, adding, "as a former NBA coach, I seem to have instant credibility with players.
The reality is, players want to further their career after college. The ability to coach players with potentially a 4-year window excites me as a coach." Roughly five years ago, Musselman had the opportunity to attend a coaching clinic in Memphis, where he soaked up knowledge and insight from the likes of John Calipari and Larry Brown. Two coaches who have had a distinct eye for NBA talent over their careers.
Kentucky head coach John Calipari contacted RidiculousUpside.com to share his thoughts about Musselman. "Eric is one of the best in our sport. Extremely driven and knowledgeable. I've watched and coached against him in the NBA and FIBA games. In most cases, I ended up on the wrong end of the score! He has an uncanny feel for the game, and ability to read where the game is at. More importantly, is his ability to motivate and teach his players what it takes to improve and win. He is as good as it gets." Calipari said.
quote:
In a statement to RidiculousUpside.com, Bachynski explained Musselman's impact on the team as a whole. "Coach Muss has instant credibility with the players due to him being a former NBA coach. He inspires us with motivational messages on our chairs, some sports related, and other's are life lessons that have had a huge impact with our team."

Im not trying to be an arse. But he finished 2nd in coach of the year despite his team still having a losing record. 3 years as an NBA coach and 3 losing records.

I couldn't have even dreamed of LSU replacing Mccray with a guy this qualified. Hopefully he can help Jones master his craft of up-tempo offense before he leaves

Damn, his credentials are outstanding for the college level. Damn near to the point where he should be our head coach and Johnny should be the assistanct

its still a lot of experience and one hell of a coup to have a guy with that kind of experience as an asst coach Lester.

I know, i love the hire.
I feel the original post was misleading though.

I guess if you just feel like arguing over using the word tons

I will say, he was added as coach of some terrible teams. The reason he was 2nd in COTY voting was because he did a lot with little talent. That's exactly the kind of coach LSU needs. We have a coach who can get talent. Now we have a coach that knows what to do with the talent.
edit: I'm not trying to make the point that CJJ doesn't know what to do with talent, only that he will be a great fit to the staff.
