I don't think many Americans, not even Democrats, like the idea of people that have every ability to work, choose not to and live on the gov't dole. Why is it such a horrible policy then to create government work programs so these people can work, though? The economy runs better when full employment is reached, anyway. And it removes the moral hazard. Let the working age idle rebuild our infrastructure, clean up the schools and the parks. Let the government give them a sense of self worth. That way, our taxes are not going to unproductive people, but to productive people. Also, it helps people who want to work, but are not able to find a job in the market.

The Dems know they will lose votes if the abled bodied leech has to work for money that he has always gotten for doing nothing.

No, Democrats don't care. They celebrate when more people rely on government.

They have to tax someone to pay for those jobs. Those taxes kill jobs. Do you think the government is going to be better at determining which jobs are necessary than private enterprise?

No one does that! They are just "discouraged" from searching for work and give up, causing Obama's unemployment numbers to look better than they are.

Can you imagine the number of lower back injuries claimed from bending over and picking up trash if this plan was implemented?

Totally okay with that. If we must spend like drunken sailors with no regard to our future, we should at least spend on infrastructure that can be used in the future.

Id be okay with it do long as it wasn't abused and not turned into labor camps for the poor.

I do think they should have free time to dig themselves out of a hole (so to speak) - at least for a little while.

Maybe first 4 weeks = free ride.
Next 4 weeks = 8hrs a week.
Next 4 weeks= 16hrs a day and so on until 40 hrs a week.

BUT, how do you justify ending the welfare once the person is working for it? Government only has so much work to do before it runs out. Then they'd start sending them to work for the profit if others.
