According to the House Ways and Means Committee, the IRS has "lost" two years of emails belonging to former head of tax exempt organizations Lois Lerner. The IRS doesn't have a record of her emails from January 2009 through April 2011, conveniently encompassing some of the same time when tea party groups were being targeted for extra scrutiny and possible criminal prosecution. The IRS says the loss of emails is due to a "computer crash" and claims emails from or to Lerner from the White House, Democratic members of Congress, the Treasury Department and Department of Justice cannot be located.

“The fact that I am just learning about this, over a year into the investigation, is completely unacceptable and now calls into question the credibility of the IRS’s response to Congressional inquiries. There needs to be an immediate investigation and forensic audit by Department of Justice as well as the Inspector General," Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp said in a statement. “Just a short time ago, Commissioner Koskinen promised to produce all Lerner documents. It appears now that was an empty promise

Who isn't surprised?

An enterprising Republican should send a formal letter to the NSA requesting them

Uh huh. "Lost".

Start making noise about contempt of court, summary judgements, etc., against the tech guys in charge of the IRS e-mail system and they'll magically find that shite pretty damn quick.

Surely the NSA has "backups" of the e-mails and would be willing to help out.

I bet they could pull up every spam email I've ever gotten over the past 5 years.

Bull-fricking-shite!!!!

Someone with more computer smarts than me should be able to confirm that a forensic expert can go in and determine if those files were DELETED or lost due to power outage/surge.

I am VERY suspicious of it being from a power failure, because I would bet that those servers have battery backups out the wazzoo.

This is akin to the Mafia credo, "No body. No murder."

There is no scandal because you have no evidence of the Administrations involvement in anything to date.

I'm sure the MSM won't spend anytime trying to question the validity of losing that much email. And that would mean the email was lost from MULTIPLE sources and not just one simple computer crash.

The fact that all of the email has disappeared should prove to the "Nothing to See Crowd" that evidently there was something to see.

Now along with the original misuse of power we have actual criminal disposal of requested documents but....

Nothing to see here.

The IRS has records and is now coming back on families for unpaid SS taxes from the 60s but can't find emails from 3-5 years ago?

Do we not have any true justice anymore?

I am no computer expert, but I have been told it is damn near impossible to delete an email, as long as it went through a server. (whatever the hell that means)

As mentioned earlier.......time for the NSA to actually do something positive and provide the emails.

I bet the IRS hasn't lost my last 2 years of tax information. Or better yet, what if I told the IRS I lost my last 2 years of tax records?

Nice. If you don't keep a receipt for 7 years and the IRS nails your arse but they don't have 2 years worth of emails from a department head...
