Posted by iluvdatiger I wish there were more educated HR Managers in the workforce today. I get a lot of questions that they should know and some ask me the same questions over and over again. Here's some good ones for you: This employee was fired last week. He wasn't enrolled in any benefits. Do I offer him COBRA? What is the difference between COBRA and State Continuation? Can an employee who declines medical coverage during initial enrollment enroll next month? This employee quit last week and is on our property right now demanding to receive a copy of his employee file. Can he do that? I have an employee who just moved from Parttime to fulltime, when can he enroll in the medical plan?

Health insurance broker should be able to answer most of that

You tell human resources that?

Your chain of command is all kinds of fricked up if so.

Hey I need you to sit in on an unemployment hearing for this employee who gave you a written and immediate resignation rather than being discharged involuntarily.

That's what I am, and I don't mind answering them. Just surprising how little HR managers know about insurance or employment laws.

Im a senior at LSU in a bs degree. I might change to Human Resources and it would take me 2 years. Is this a good career field. Salary wise, hours wise, coworkers wise? I was a film major, but that wont work out.

Will you actually care about the benefits package that your company offers and will you care about staying in compliance with Cafeteria 125 regulations?

That's the problem. You are going need a qualified HR person with all of the changes that are going to and are taking place. If not, I hope your company doesn't fire you when they get hit with fines and penalties.

9/10 companies this person doesn't know shite about what is really going on. refers all questions that you would have to the broker but does show up for the meeting to introduce said broker 1 time a year. (But they make sure you sign a sheet saying you attended the meeting)

Why does this need a degree again?
