I saw that golf galaxy was having a sale on the black r 1 driver. I was wondering if any of you have that club and what your thoughts are on it?? If I pull the plug, I would be a huge upgrade from my taylormade 580. Thanks

I see a lot more RBZ and RBZ stage 2 drivers in bags
I'm a big fan of the original RBZ woods if you are looking for discounted models.

Two scratch golfers I play with, who both change drivers like most of us do clothes, have each gotten one and absolutely hated it. Other than that I have no info for you.

Taylormade makes solid drivers but you better hit some balls with it before you buy one. Buy one that fits your game, if you aren't a guy who hits it well every time, find one that protects your common miss hits. My tendency is to hit low and on the heel misses and Taylormade drivers have a sharp V bottom that my misses are really bad.

I bought one recently and have struggled with it. I'm sure I just need more swings to get used to it.

I had about 4 taylormade drivers in a row but now I'm hitting a Nike Covert Tour 2.0
I love it, but most people pass on it immediately bc it's a nike
I've been hearing plenty of good things about the Big Bertha Alpha also but I haven't hit one

Percy....I have one in my bag I bought last year when it first came out.
I've had the r7 draw for years. I had swung many of drivers for the last three years, but nothing I swung could match my r7, so I never made a switch.....until last year.
I love my R1. I made the purchase and went straight to the range to try and find my setting. The first 3 months I had it, I continued to try and find that "spot" with the settings. I continued to use my r7 in rounds and only hit the 1 on the range.
I don't get the distance, but it am much more accurate with my R1 now. I have not messed with my settings since last year and do not plan on it. One thing that helped me with the R1, was I went and got the shaft shortened slightly at our local golf USA because I am more comfortable addressing the ball closer off the tee box. Once I did this, I immediately found my setting and haven't changed since.
It's like everything else in the world. Some people hate it, some people love it.

I just got one about 3 weeks ago and I love it so far. I had been hitting the titleist 913 D2 for about a year prior. I like the titleist but it had a little to much sidespin, so if you were off a little bit that thing was slicing or hooking into oblivion. The R1 shot dispersion I find is a lot tighter, and I like the adjustability. I set it to one click towards draw, and higher loft. Ball flight is nice. It's also very long.

Couldn't agree with this more. I just sold my rbz driver but still have the first gen 3 wood and three hybrids. I tired like hell to convince myself to buy an r1 black when it came out but could not hit it any better.

It's ok, but there are better drivers out there for the price.

Isn't it like $199 brand new now?

I disagree. The 580 is a really good driver. If it's still in good condition, I'd take that over the R1, assuming the proper shaft is installed. I do not like the R1.

You bought a new driver, but didn't use it on the course for 3 months because you couldn't figure out the correct settings? Doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement to me.

I tend to slice my drives...like really bad. If you have a fast inconsistent drive, I'd go hit an R1 or get fitted before pulling the trigger. I played with an R7 and played a round with my dad's RBZ and couldn't hit either of them for the life of me. Picked up a Cobra Amp Cell with a stiff flex shaft for $160 from Dicks and have been loving it; it's the easiest driver to hit that I've ever swung.

Not at all.
I loved it when I bought it. Loved the look, feel, sound, everything. I do it with all new clubs.
I'm not taking something to the course or to a small tourney without 100% confidence in that club. For me to gain confidence, I need to hit it a lot, break it in, etc.

Hit it once and hated it. Only TM clubs I've ever really liked are the RBZ stage 2 fairway woods. Those are hot off the face.
I just bought a Cobra Bio Cell Pro for $194 discounted from $399. Waiting for it to ship.

Get the nike covert at dicks for $149. If you can look over it being red it's a very solid driver

I only hit the R1 5 times maybe. didnt like the look or feel. But my R11 lost its pop and kinda put me off on TM drivers. Got a titleist 913 and love it. next driver will probably be a titleist as well. I know 3 people that got the R1 and didnt keep it long
