Ga is also a huge filming market but when our states give so much in tax breaks, what really is the incentive? Pride? Film crews themselves don't impact the economy very much at all.

The pageant was held in Shreveport, Louisiana for the second consecutive year; unusually Shreveport would also host the Miss Teen USA pageant later the same year. Owner Donald Trump had initially suggested that the event would be moved to New York City, however an agreement was reached in November 1997 for the pageant to stay in Louisiana.[3] During the two weeks that the delegates were in Shreveport the city and local companies benefitted from the extra business generated by the pageant and by the publicity offered by three minutes of promotion during the live broadcast.[4][5] The expected worldwide audience for the pageant was 300 million people.[6]

There's a list of host cities on Wikipedia. There's been some curiously shitty host cities.

Exactly. There are companies here now that cater to the film industry that wouldn't exist otherwise.

And cast and crew buy goods and services locally. They eat out, order in, shop for merchandise, and otherwise support the local economy.

Louisiana isn't in a position of needing the film industry, it's in a position of wanting the film industry. The state government is doing a fine job diversifying our economy.

Just got off work at l'auberge tonight and holy shite these women are fine. They look way better in real life for one. Not to mention all of their milfy moms they brought with them and sisters, cousins, friends, etc.

Don't forget that there is value in being in the spot light. Out of sight and out of mind is never a good thing. The movie industry has definitely done away with that for the state.

Haven't read this whole thread but i've seen the comments about BR, Dardenne, Bobby, etc. I went with the wife lastnight. She did some work for the pageant so we had ridiculous seats and tickets to the after party. The talent was amazing - and not just the contestants. All of their cheering sections came out blazing hot. I had no idea that so many people came in from out of state. I always figured family. But there were tons of people from all over.

I'm not sure who was responsible for bringing it to BR but Dardenne was sitting next to Trump. Then Kip next to Dardenne.

I talked to a good bit of people afterwords about BR. They all said they had a great time. It wasn't just a "oh yeah, nice city, love being here" kind of deal. People were literally gushing over the city and the people. I heard a ton about how "Southern Hospitality is real". I did have one guy tell me that BR is "so much prettier and cleaner than New Orleans" I must have given him the "are you fricking with me?" look because his girlfriend butted in and said he had a bad experience in New Orleans. The River Center also looked great - they must have put a lot of lipstick on it.

All being said, I think it made BR look awesome on national TV, and I think BR really rolled out the red carpet on this one for all the guests. From the reactions I heard I would not be surprised to see them back in the near future. Forget who got it here, or what we paid to have it here, this was all a huge positive for Baton Rouge.
