I'm flying a friend's airplane back to him in Houston in a few days and found out that I can return back to NOLA on a Megabus for a whopping $31. The ride is also only just over 6 hrs long.

Anyone ever taken this form of transportation?

Is it trashy?

I've used the megabus for that route multiple times-- it is so cheap! It is not a bad way to travel for only six hours either. There's free wifi- so I usually just stream a movie or sleep. Sunday nights are packed so I wouldn't advise riding it then. You are still using a bus for long distance transportation so there is a certain amount of trash you won't be able to avoid.

Renting a car probably costs $50 and there is zero trash riding with you

I never did but have friends that have tried it.

It's not bad. You have wifi and the ability to charge phones/computers.

The crowd can be decent to bad. A lot of college students use it.

Took that same route to and from Mardi Gras last year with the gf at the time.

For riding a bus it's not bad. The stop in Nola was some random empty lot off of Rampart I believe...not the best spot at 12 at night.

Someone mentioned the trash...some dude in the seat behind us was getting domed up on the ride back to Houston. Unfortunately my lady didn't give in to the peer pressure

Damn, that's legit.

I'm probably gonna ride it. I'll just bring my ipad and some vodka.

The DC-PHilly-NYC is really nice. Sure you get the occasional weirdo, but by and large its just people trying to visit family, or take a weekend trip. I've never ridden the Chinatown buses, but I've heard horror stories. I used to live in DC's 'Chinatown' and saw some of the folks getting on those buses. Screw that.

Can't speak to the Houston route, I imagine it might be a bit trashier, but Megabus and Bolt if they have it are reputable carriers.

I have family that have used the Megabus in Texas. I haven't heard bad things. Go for it.

On a one-way rental? No. It'll be way more than $50.
