Ask your fellow anarchist, communist, socialist friend Ralph.

I never understand how some lefties and commies hate capitalism that much to the point that they define it as slavery and cruel.

The poor people in this country are fat.

However, when Communism has been at its peak, or socialism, in a country throughout the years, people were killed by the thousands or millions. By their own government. Forced to work factories or actual slave labor. frick you Ralph. You can disagree with the system, and stick your head in the sand, but do not ever say capitalism is cruel. Because it is the furthest thing from cruel.

Because those are the facts. Revenue-to-GDP dropped 10% from 20% to 18%. Got it?

all the while, the deficit exploded, regulations increased and government got bigger and more intrusive.

the overall picture doesn't sound very "conservative" to me.

I like Reagan, but his defense spending changes enabled the huge increases in DOD budgets from his tenure moving forward. Defense spending has skyrocketed since.

And made us the greatest military superpower in the history of the world. NOBODY really wants a piece of us. We need to ramp that shite up even more. No such thing as not being badass enough. Fact...no country in the history of the world has been invaded for being tooo badass.

So you were completely wrong regarding "tax increases".

the deficit exploded
Now you want to talk deficit increases?
Reagan viewed the Cold War as a war we could win. Few others did. We won it! Wars entail spending. We did.
quote:

regulations increased
No.

government got ... more intrusive.
How so?

Obama brags about bullshite stuff he had no hand in. Meanwhile, Reagan brought down the GD'd Berlin Wall, got the Iranian hostages released just by taking the oath of office, collapsed the Soviet mfing union, oversaw the space shuttle program, star wars, brought economy out of shitter and made us the premier economic power in the world as well as military, got fricking shot and walked into the gotdamned hospital, cut firewood, shut up ghadaffi's (sp.? frick him) for 30 years, wore mfing boots and a cowboy hat, asked clint eastwood to be vice president. :usa: :usa: :usa: I mean...shite!!! How much more 'murica can you get?

you are only taking into account a single tax cut and ignoring the increases. why is that?

Did Reagan govern in a vacuum or did he have to compromise with a democratic congress? He was naive to believe that the democrats would hold up their end of the bargain regarding spending cuts.

Yes I do. Bitch arse sucker punch? Yes. Invasion? No. And we have broke it off in their asses. How many are left from Bush's deck of cards? Reagan would have wrecked shite in the ME.

You belittle 9/11 and its effects to a "bitch arse sucker punch?" Thousands of Americans died, our airspace was closed, and our country shut down in just about every way possible. We see the effects of it every day from the TSA, the Patriot Act, and more civil liberties that have been eroded. We were facing a faceless enemy, and all that military might couldn't prevent it.

Listen, I'm not trying to say that I don't like Reagan. I wish the GOP could find another candidate who could communicate and delegate like he did. But he wasn't perfect. The military budget bloated under his administration, and it's been bloated ever since. And reducing military spending wouldn't necessarily equate to reducing military power. Those conservatives who harp on about federal spending should be open to reviewing the current level of defense spending.

We

were

trying to end

the

Cold

War

!

We did!
It entailed expanding and modernizing the military and expanding diplomatic pressures in ways in which the USSR could not compete. That demanded a matching budget. What part of that is unclear?

We ended it.
We won!
Credit where credit is due . . . credit is due Reagan.

Of course you did.

I voted for Reagan, and remember when Stockman bailed on him. I am also aware that he has a new book of out, and read a review of it in National Review.

The opposing side is always eager to quote someone who has defected. The Left has David Stockman and David Brock.

The Right has David Horowitz, Bill Kristol, Irving Kristol, Midge Decter, Gertrude Himmelfarb, P.J. O'Rourke, Jeanne Kirkpatrick, Charles Krauthammer, David Mamet, and Reagan himself.

Shall I go on?

Yeah, but in all fairness the USSR subsidized Cuba.

are just stupid. North Korea, Vietnam, China, Cuba, and others speak to that so-called inevitability

Oh come on, don't distort what I said.

Socialism in Vietnam and China has collapsed, they are now market based economies.

If North Korea/Cuba decided to engage in a foreign war they would collapse within a few years, whether they do or not is irrelevant to how Reagan treated the USSR. Reagan KNEW the USSR was overextending, but chose to engage them in an arms race and combat them in Afganistan anyways. Did you enjoy 9/11? Thank Reagan.
