Speeding Camera Ban On Interstates

Can someone explain to me the difference between these cameras and the ones that are on residential streets (ie NOLA)? If we are banning cameras on the interstate, why hasn't the argument been made to ban them outright?

Did you call your legislator and ask?

People going 80 jam on the brakes causing backups, which in turn causes accidents

Same could be said for red light cameras as well. In fact, there have been recent studies indicating that red light cameras cause more accidents than they prevent.

Those optometrists and Opthamologists rushing to do surgery will have to slow down.

The legislators felt that banning the cameras on interstates was a "gimme" and would make it look like they were doing something. Fact, politicians always look for the legislation that will upset the fewest folks. Not the legislation that is the best.
If they banned all speed cameras, there would be major pushback from municipalities that are taking in the cash. No one has the interstate cameras yet and everyone agrees that getting them is ludicrous. This was pre-emptive and much easier than fixing the true issue of getting them out of towns as well.

They had a speed camera on a Mazda Tribute in Livingston that would move to different spots on the interstate. Can't remember why they stopped it though

The flash from the camera at night caused an accident I believe
