Not due to marriage/divorce.

Seems like it would take a pretty interesting person, or someone with an interesting story to do this.

Patrick Peterson. Duh.

Personally, I know who he is, but I do not personally know him.

I took my mom's maiden name when I turned 18.

I also dated a girl in college whose parents made the mistake of telling her that they almost named her "Skye". She hit her Ms. Save the World phase in college and insisted on being called that name, to which I, of course, refused. But then she ran off to California and had it legally changed to that. One of the most toolbaggish things I've ever heard of anyone doing.

Yeah, a buddy of mine's mom remarried and he was adopted by the new husband. Kind of strange for a 17 year old, but hey. Whatever floats your boat. I think it was more about disassociating with his biological father, than it was love for the new guy.

Yes. He didn't like his given name.

I thought about doing it myself. My parents forgot to put Jr on my birth certificate so I have the exact same name as my father. I just want to add Jr.

Yes. I know two people who did that. One said it was because of an abusive relationship with his father, so he didn't want his father's name. The other was because his twin brother was fricking up his life (so this guy said).

Both people are...interesting. I'm convinced that one of them is a sociopath, while the other is just a passive aggressive little bitch.

These two kids I went to school with. They were adopted and their parents let them change their names when they were around 10-13. It was really weird and the family is super trashy. The kids changed their last name to the same thing, "Nation".

Also know this person who was born a hermaphrodite and showed up at school (7th grade) with a male (ish) variant of the female name he had gone by for the first 12-13 years of his life. I'm guessing it was legally changed.

Know a couple that got married and legally changed their (yes his and her) last names to something completely different. Both of their last names were fairly common, cant remember now what they changed it to, but wasnt uncommon either. Made no sense to me, interesting wasnt the word that came to mind when I heard about it.
