Greg Monroe rumor

A poster over on PR posted this.

This poster's track record is about as good as it gets for insiders, several predictions made that were unknowable if they didn't actually happen, like Monty being on the hotseat if we didn't beat Memphis early in the season (we did beat Memphis), and a clearly correct scoop, the aforementioned Ryan Anderson injury info. I think the interesting thing here is that the team has interest in Monroe.

I was just talking to my Pelicans source and he seemed to think something involving Eric Gordon and Greg Monroe was going to happen. This is the same source that correctly told me Ryan Anderson had a herniated disk, so he definitely knows what he's talking about. Maybe the Pistons overvalue Gordon because they need a SG, but I still don't see why they'd do that swap. I trust my source though and I think we're no doubt targeting Monroe. I hope we would not include Anderson in any trade because personally I'd definitely prefer Ryno at their respective prices. My hope is they like Eric and think he'll opt out after the year and maybe we throw in some sweeteners like PJ/Withey/future picks. I know this seems a little unlikely and you don't have to believe this, but it's definitely credible and you shouldn't be surprised if something like this happens.

I'd shite myself with pure joy if we flipped Gordon for Monroe.

We can send them withey with EG.

Just the idea gets me fully torqued. Seems like we would have to send them more.

I would be surprised if Anderson wasnt expected in some deal.

Oh God, let this be true.

Assuming we keep Anderson, I'm not crazy about a guy making the money either Anderson or Monroe makes on the bench during crunch time. That also assuming our crunch time lineup isn't Anderson/Davis/Monroe.
However, I'll take just about anything for Gordon at this point, so I definitely wouldn't complain if that deal happens.

At first glance you would think that, but here are a couple of reasons that it might not be true.
1) Past precedent for RFA acquisitions = Ayon and Vasquez. Not much return on 2 very good players that didn't fit the teams future plans.
2) Detroit already screwed itself by overpaying the biggest name they could attract. Between the cap increase and the number of teams that will have cap space, we're looking at a players market, so there will be lots of overpaying, especially if you aren't a top destination. So overpay Gordon for 1-2 years while balancing out your roster some, or use all of your available cap space to hold onto Monroe, an imbalanced front court you know doesn't work, and use your remaining cap space to overpay a FA wing for 4 years rather than Gordon's 1-2.
If Stan Van Gundy is good enough to attract top FAs on bargain basement deals then they'd be fools to take Gordon. But if he can't wash off the stench of the last 5 years in a few months time, then Gordon may not be the worst use of cap space they can think of.

Wonder if we give Monroe a max deal? Not sure I want us to do that.

That would be a great move

where's LSU Piston? we need his input

Not going to happen, but it would be awesome

I'm going to be in NFL salary cap mode for a few more months, so I'm a bit sloppy with cap holds and all, but if Monroe signed with Detroit for 4/$48m at $12m each year and we sent them Gordon/Ryno, how much cap space would we have? Does Detroit have enough cap space to take on those two without sending anything back besides Monroe? It looks to me like they would have to send another $3m or player so our way.

who would be more valuable to this team as it is currently constructed? Ryno or Monroe? imo ryno
Posted on 5/19/14 at 1:59 pm to THRILLHO
Detroit has $40m in guaranteed salary for next year with 10 players fully under contract, Jonas Jerebko under a $4m player option, and Josh Harrellson on a $1m team option.
Given that the cap is roughly $65 for next year, Detroit can take back up to $24m without having to worry about matching salaries as long as they renounce Stuckey and Villanueva.

Pretty much this.
Unless we pull a wing out of our asses who can hit 3s regularly and isn't a total defensive liability, we need Ryno more than a big.

Gordon=14 mil
Ryno=8.5 mil
that's 22.5 mil(roughly)
We'd take back Monroe(12 mil)/jerekbo(4.5 mil)
Still 6 mil short
Det has some cap space though
