The Spurs have proven that a relatively small city organization can have success if run properly.
The Pistons, for a while, have had a good deal of success (the last 5-6 years haven't been that good).
But yes, SA, has done a great job

Yep. Build through the draft and select guys who are coachable, play as a team, and care more about winning than being a celebrity.

Kevin Love reportedly wants out and Lakers fans have internet access. This is going to be a long summer.

I'm not disagreeing with anything in this thread and totally get why you'd prefer Los Angeles or New York to Minneapolis, but Minneapolis/st Paul metro really is like a 3.5 million person area. it's strange to me that it's considered "small-market" no different than New Orleans or Milwaukee or Cleveland.
I'm pretty sure Minneapolis has more Fortune 500 headquarters then all but about five or six cities.
Is Seattle "small-market" as well?

it's not LA, Chi, or NY...

"Small Market" in sports terms is different than it is in other terms.
But for sports, Seattle and Portland are considered "small market" teams.

Yep
Pistons model was just getting a bunch of lunch pail guys, Joe D. wasn't a very good drafter (fricked up badly with Mateen cleaves and Rodney White early in his tenure, he did get Mehmet Okur and T. Prince)
Ben Wallace was acquired in a trade, same for Rip hamilton and Rasheed. Prince turned out well as a draft pick and Chauncey was a good FA signing.
At the end of the day, they played really well as a team

Sure I get that - but there's a difference between small-market like Milwaukee or Cleveland or Memphis where all 1 million are broke
and medium market like Seattle, Minneapolis, Denver where all 3 million have a degree and make bank.
I'm advocating for medium market PER rating that factors in wealth, education, demographics, etc.

I don't really blame him. They had a decent roster this season and couldn't do anything with it. In the NBA today you basically need two star players. He won't get another in Minnesota.

Memphis has made some pretty decent runs with basically zero star players but I get where you're coming from.
I personally think love is a little overrated. His game is tailor-made to have an astronomical PER and none of his weaknesses are reflected in that stat.

It would be stupid on his part IMO if he trades one losing situation for another just so he can live in LA.

Minny is a cool ciy, definitely better than many NBA locations

I can see him going with Kyrie Irving to the Lakers.
shite they should re-hire dantoni then, as neither play defense

MinnyTiger sticking up for his city. Cute.

quote:I think you'd have an argument if Minny had a great team and love picked location over winning. Twolves have been bad for years, they've never made the playoffs in his tenure, he's got a legit beef with the front office they're not doing enough to put a winning team around him. As I said before is you're going to lose, might as we'll pick what city you do it in.
So the smaller market Midwest teams are basically farm teams for the marquee teams?

Anytime you can take Jonny Flynn ahead of Steph Curry, you gotta do it

And the original post says he's open to playing for the Knicks. smh

That team would be awesome if they would have:
Pek
Love
Brewer
Curry
Rubio
