WASHINGTON - We have news out of Pottawattamie County, Iowa, where the local Republican Party chairman got a very, very interesting telephone call from Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul.
The senator revealed that he is very seriously looking at running for president in 2016 and reportedly asked for an event in western Iowa where he could be the star attraction.
That's according to our colleague, Jennifer Jacobs, who reported that story Thursday for The Des Moines Register, a sister paper to The Courier-Journal.
Paul spoke for 10 minutes in a private conversation Thursday morning with Pottawattamie County GOP Chairman Jeff Jorgensen, Jacobs learned.
"He said he was calling to let Pottawattamie County Republicans know he was seriously looking at a presidential run in 2016," Jorgensen posted in a message to friends on Facebook, Jacobs reported.
Jorgensen added this: "He said Pottawattamie County will play a very important role in his overall Iowa campaign strategy. He's looking to get western Iowa grassroots activists involved while expanding his base of support across the whole state."

I'm unlikely to vote at all, but I suppose I'd rather have a President Paul as opposed to anyone else.

Western Iowa = Northern Mississippi. He'll have to do a lot of expanding if he's going to get any traction.

Not if he doesn't fix his stance on Voter ID.

I like Rand, but I also remember the last guy who vowed to change the culture in Washington and promised all these super swell things.
The bureaucratic inertia is too strong for one man to overcome. I hate to see you guys be disappointed in Rand 6 years from now, but I think you all know it's coming

I'd rather be disappointed with Rand than infuriated with Hillary.

He didn't acknowledge the source of the problem in the culture in DC and that's the size and scope of gov't and even when Obama ran on changing the culture in DC, he still advocated for strengthening the gov't. Transparency can only get you so far and isn't gonna do shite if you're still leaving the problem as it is.
Rand is not only campaigning on transparency but he's attacking the real problem; gov't is too big, too bloated and too invasive on the everyday citizen and enables the culture in that den of thieves otherwise known as Washingon. Who knows, he may disappoint me but at least he acknowledges what the problem really is.

You want Rand Paul to have a stance opposite the constitution? Good luck with that.
