well if you ever do, you'll find that the varied and complex flavors of the Scottish Highlands (or wherever) and hundreds of years of distilling tradition really shine through much better at room temperature.

Damn, I thought we could contain these uppity bitches into the scotch/whisky/boubon circle jerk thread on the FDB, but now you had to go and get them all riled up on here.

EH Taylor Single Barrel or barrel strength.
Although I'm still not sure if you're looking for Bourbon or Scotch.
And to whom ever said ice makes you an idiot: stahp it.

swart-z is one of those refined dudes that'll transfer his whiskey into a decorative decanter that he keeps in his library, pour himself a glass, sit in his fave chair, fire up a select roi tan, and will then commence to pondering about life.

go to a bar in Scotland and ask for some ice in your whiskey. If you're lucky they'll politely refuse and explain the error of your ways. Less lucky they'll mock you into humiliation or ask you to leave.

All Bourbon is whiskey, not all whiskey is Bourbon!
Here is the Bourbon Family Tree: LINK
Good Luck Finding Some Pappy. I've been trying to get my hands on the good stuff for years, but the waiting list is like 10 years or something.
My Best Man and I decided to do a blind testing of our own a few weeks before my wedding. It was my wedding present from him.
So now I stock Weller 12, Eagle Rare, Charter, Buffalo Trace, Elmer Lee, Sazerac, 1792, Knob Creek, Basil Hayden's, Maker's 46, Woodford Reserve, Jack, & Gentlemen Jack.... & the Crowns.
When we did the blind taste test... it was easy to point out the Tennessee whiskey and rye. But, it was harder to pin point the other ones.
We both scored Woodford at the top followed by a combination of Knob, Basil, Eagle, and Maker's, with Charter scoring surpisingly high.
It really just comes down to personal preference.

Michter single barrel bourbon.
But, to be honest, I like Bulleit as much as any of them.

I drink Scotch for the most part neat or with a side shot of water. From the responses in the thread, this was about Bourbon.
Although I'll drop a Scotch ball in some blended or even a 10-12 year old single malt on occasion. We're not in Scotland and you're not an idiot for drinking it how you like.

Food and drink has a huge thread in this. I was at Costco. I reccomend makers, buffalo trace, bulleit is pretty good.

If you're talking about bourbon instead of whiskey, Buffalo Trace is pretty good and for about $22 a bottle won't break your bank.

I saw a TV interview yesterday where a Kentucky whiskey maker said that most American-made whiskies are in short supply. He said demand fell off in the '90s and most distilleries scaled back operations. Now there's supposedly not enough aged product available.

A really good one is what it is no matter where youre drinking it. It's a free country, but there's still a right and wrong way - established across generations and millions of humans enjoying a primal and essential experience of tasting.
Of course people can do what they want, but if I open a good bottle of single malt, and see someone put ice in their glass, they have just revealed something about themselves. Jus sayin.
Or are you one of those guys who thinks its totally fine to drown your dry-aged prime rare porterhouse in A1 and Heinz 57? I mean, I can do what I want right?

But they aren't mutually exclusive so how is this possible?

You're one of those guys who makes asinine assumptions. Yes, you can do what you want. Enjoy that steak sauce, you Renaissance man, you.
I had Scotch in Scotland and they had no problem dropping a cube in one of the glasses after suggesting either a cube or a splash of water, fwiw. I said do what you think is best. They said it's mostly frowned upon for the older whiskeys, like the 30 year old Talisker I had later.
