i really feel we upgraded almost everything. defense--dts will be better,(experience for hicks and jenkins) secondary(added baptiste and byrd and bailey, with lewis, robinson, bush, vacarro) lbs,(butler back to contribute. parys 2nd year in system) d ends? prob similar. o line will be better, which makes run game better--which makes pass game better,(vice versa) but a pass game thats already gonna be better even beforehand...with cooks added to morgan being back.... and stills, colston, graham....ryan has second year in(huge)k. robinson might really show even more promise with the o line being better. Ingram could continue slight promise if it all meshes, also. off subject- div two armstrong will compete with lelito. curious on that. yes i know its random blabber and no stats or links or balanced logic that shows both confidence and humbleness to thwart the rant attack aching to criticize. Its just drunken hope thats poorly typed, and i didnt live up to rant standards, but it gives me cautious yet blatant hope, regardless...who freaking dat.

edit: i forgot stills 2nd year... most likely improvement also. pass game will be obnoxiously good if drew has time and run game is solid... continuing the end of last years running promise. all these things enhance each other also. which creates that beautiful, dominant confidence...swagger

Still feel like linebacker is being woefully neglected. I would have liked to see them package their later round picks for a 3rd to grab a better OLB of the board. I wouldn't be opposed to an ILB either if one was available that was drastically better. We'll see how Fortt pans out, he has the raw ability to be that coverage OLB that we need - but maybe there was a more complete OLB still available in the 3rd?

I love all the Graham hate. Dude is an accurate kicker. Did he miss a kick in terrible conditions in Sea? Sure. Guess what? Most kickers would've had trouble with it. The thing with Graham is that he is reliable from within 35, and that is what we did not have with Harley.

Would it be nice to upgrade the K position? Most certainly. There is still a training camp to go and see if either of the 2 rooks can take the job from him.

I wasn't hating on Graham, but there are kickers out there that are better right now and much younger.

upgrading talent doesn't always transfer to upgrade in team production.

Just FYI. Hicks is mainly a DE. He may slide inside every once in a while, but Bunkley and Jenkins are the main DTs.

Way to be a Debbie Downer. It's pretty rare to upgrade talent that fits the system and the scheme and have it be unsuccessful.

Most of the time talent upgrades don't work is because they go to a team that they don't fit with. The main guys the Saints got that will produce this season fit the system very well.

Eh, he's more of a DT than he is a defensive end. We don't really run a 3-4, and Bunkley plays less than 40% of the snaps with Jenkins playing just over 40%

LINK

Almost all of his highlights come from him over the guard. He's great at collapsing the pocket from the inside. Really an effective dynamic with Cam and Junior

I'm interested in seeing what Victor Butler can do

Yeah, he's really the odd-shaped peg for the traditional 3-4 defense. Given that I don't see too many changes in LB this off-season, I doubt the Saints move away from the hybrid defense that RR has so impressively thrown together here. The only downside to his scheme is they almost always have to have a 3rd safety or 3rd corner close to the LOS to watch the run and guard against the underneath route.

If the Saints had a decent WLB that could cover, this would be marginally reduced and they could move to a true 3-down lineman setup. You could still use Hicks in this way in an overload blitz at DE. Place him at the side of the blitz and he can eat up 2 blockers, as well as Bunkley in the traditional nose tackle role. 4 Blockers taken out of the play, leaving you free to send a LB or Safety on a blitz.

Linebacker, and I still have my concerns about the offensive line

ETA: However, at least they continue to draft LBs in middle rounds hoping to find contributors at the very least
