I have started taking the light rail to work and soon we are moving to an office downtown so I need something more fashionable than what I have. Any ideas?

Fossil has a messanger bag that I've been about to pull the trigger on for a minute... Just google it, I don't feel like it

Get a softsided briefcase.

I've had this for a year now:

It's awesome, very sturdy can hold 2 laptops and very comfortable to wear…on the expensive side but it's extremely well made…one of those purchases where it's pretty expensive for what you get, but you won't have to buy another one for 20 years

Checking out all suggestions now
I work for a software development company so it doesn't need to be really fancy. The bag I have now is just a total embarrassment and needs replacing

I have the older version of this, it has been a very good bag. I picked it up at a garage sale with tags still on it for $15.

All the men at my work use backpacks

I use a random messenger bag. I've used it for the past 2 years to bring my laptop back and forth at my job site.

Does that go across your body?
Seems like it'd wrinkle the frick out of your shirt

Timbuk2 backpack. Traveling weekly, the majority of these business travelers go for a backpack for their laptops for comfort, protection, and accessibility.

I've used a Samsonite VizAir backpack for about the last 6 months. Has held up well and it's an easy carry.

I thought about a backpack but think I like the messenger bag style a bit more

Bombproof Laptop Bag
The most exceptional part of this bag is its bombproof laptop compartment. It comes in two sizes, 15 liter (15L) and 20 Liter (20L).
Laptop Protection
15L: up to a 17 inch laptop
20L: up to a 17 inch laptop
External pockets
15L: two open pockets (for magazines or newspapers)
20L: one closed zippered pocket (for valuables)
Internal organization in the second (non-laptop) compartment of each bag: three zippered pockets.
Each Shoulder Bag comes with a removable 2-inch thick nylon adjustable shoulder strap.
When in doubt, sizing guide:
If you’re a day commuter (cars, subways, sidewalks, or all of the above), go with the 15L. If you’re a road warrior who is always in and out of airports (and need more stuff), go with the 20L.
