Wife and I dated about 10 yrs before we tied the knot. We started dating soon after her first marriage fell apart.

When the time's right, you'll know.

When people used to ask a buddy of mine that very question, he would tell them "At least 2 years after you stop asking me that goddam question."

Been shacked up for almost six years. At a holiday party last year, someone asked the woman when we were gonna get married. She replied by asking them why we would want to frick up a great relationship by doing that.

If you aren't ready, tell her and move on.

I've been dating my gf for 5 years now and we've lived together the last year and a half. We've talked about it but we're both in law school/grad school and aren't in a hurry to go through that hassle with everything on our plate. The questions about marriage are constant and are definitely annoying but who gives a frick about what other people think is "right"

I'd say after 2-3 years, then one party probably isn't interested in marrying the other.

Both 31. Both established careers. Lived together for 2. I'm not really concerned about us. More just a question for the OT. We love our life together, and will eventually get married. shite, we have been talking about starting to try to have a kid after next year.

Get engaged whenever, but at this point you should know whether or not there's a future there.
