The 2012 consulate attack and accusations of a White House cover-up are catnip for grassroots donors and activists. And Benghazi — and the select committee assigned to investigate it — is a key part of the GOP fundraising and mobilization strategy. This week, the National Republican Congressional Committee rolled out a new fundraising campaign called “Benghazi Watchdogs” — an effort by the aiming to raise money off Gowdy’s new position. Publicly available domain registration data shows that the site was registered Tuesday

Other fundraising solicitations about Benghazi include:

•A fundraising page from the NRCC with a photo of Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, accompanied by big bold text proclaiming: “Benghazi was a coverup. Demand answers.” — and asking for donations of up to $500.

• A May 2 blog post from the National Republican Senatorial Committee titled “Dude, You’re Being Lied To About Benghazi.” The post was in response to former White House spokesman Tommy Vietor’s appearance on Fox News last week where he used the line “Dude, that was like two years ago.” It concludes: “Americans deserve the truth about Benghazi and it’s clear Democrats will not give it to them. Donate today and elect a Republican Senate majority.”

•A May email blast from the conservative nonprofit Special Ops OPSEC Education Fund that asks for an “immediate contribution” of $25, $50, $100 or more to “hold Obama and Hillary’s feet to the fire until justice is done.”

•A January email from Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in the aftermath of the State of the Union noting that Obama “failed to mention Benghazi, the IRS, or the NSA” and asking for donations.

• A John Bolton PAC email from April accused Obama, Clinton and former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta of refusing to take responsibility for “leaving Americans to die at the hands of terrorists.”

•An email from Senate candidate Joe Miller saying that there is “strong evidence that senior administration officials crafted a false narrative for purely political purposes.”

•An email this week from Rep. Scott Rigell’s (R-Va.) campaign asking for “$5, $10, $20, or $50 to help keep him in Congress and hold the Administration accountable” that also asks “Why didn’t the military respond to the events in Benghazi Were there even military assets in the region available? If not, why not? Who made the decision not to send support? House Republicans are committed to finding out the truth about Benghazi.”

•An email from House candidate Andy Tobin accusing Obama of “covering up vital information about what happened that night” and asking for donations.

• Conservative pundits and former politicians like Mike Huckabee, Allen West and others have sent emails to their lists, according to the liberal watchdog group Media Matters.

I've posted this for those who suggest this is some sort of pious "quest for the truth". It's clearly all political.

Democrats fundraised off of Obamacare. I guess that means they didn't think it was really important they just wanted to make a cash grab.

Meh, I don't think it ALL is political... But def a good bit of it is.

Same as the dipshits threatening not to increase the national debt and then caving...

Its fricking sad that all our politicians are worried about it power. Another reason I would love to run for office and blow up their whole scheme.

How many Democrat-led anti gun fundraisers were held after Sandy Hook?

Yep, and add to it that almost every House Republican expressed interest in being on the committee. It's a political opportunity too hard to turn down.

Wow.....I can't believe a political party would use issues the base is concerned about to raise money.

Just be consistent. Find me a pure pious program or law free from "politics" that you have supported.

This must be the new talking point being fed to the ignorant. I would imagine the op doesn't think Obamacare, gun control, and "women's rights" are just money grabs and political,,,,but not really important to dems.

How some of you fall for these silly talking points amazes me. I will enjoy watching the thread to see who raises their hand to join a want as one of the ignorant.

I don't think it is completely political but I am not naive enough to think that politics aren't playing a large role in all of this.

For me I just really want to know why we abandoned our people and did not even attempt to send in a rescue effort. I spent six years in the Army and one of the most important things that was drilled into me is that we never leave our people behind, NEVER. I also would like to know why we haven't brought anyone to justice yet. If the media can find some of these guys I am certain the CIA can.

ALL political? No. Is the GOP looking to make hay while the sun is shining? Yes. It's a dirty fricking game that they (Rs and Ds) play. I don't know how their mamas can be proud of them.

Five years into his tenure in office and nothing is his fault not one damned thing. Crappy numbers in the 1st quarter of this years is blamed on the weather. Why do you and every lib poster polish the knob every day? Are you familiar with the duck test? He is a gold plated duck strutting around in his waddle.

ETA two rounds of golf recently came with a price tag of several millions for security each. Does that sound like someone that promised fiscal responsibility at work?

Really to me, it's all about accountability. I'd like to see if we could re-insert accountability into government (especially when people's lives are at stake.) Seriously, how could you bungle something this badly and not be held accountable? Not have brought anyone to justice over this?

I keep comparing it to work in the private sector. What if due to lack of planning or I was just having a bad day and I screwed up the big proposal and lost our best customer? And after the fact my boss wanted to know what went wrong and I came up with excuses and time lapses and there are no corrective actions. I guarantee you that I would not be in contention for my boss' position. I wouldn't be with the Company any longer.

I pretty much agree with the high probability that all these assertions are substantive.

Book it, the reason for the low profile over there is that Obama was running guns to AQ in Syria, and they will go to the mat to hide it.

The Dems can boycott all they want, but it won't change the FACTS. When or if those emails come out, or one of the operatives...gets Jesus and decides to tell the truth.

Game on.

Here's Senator Blumenthal defending use of Sandy Hook in campaign funding request. Are you outraged? Is it all political?

LINK

Here's the difference...Benghazi was directly related to the current administration and investigations directly related to sitting members of Congress.

Further, I'm not sure what's wrong with "making political" the actions/inactions of elected officials. Assuming the work "political" means to utilize for benefit of elections and to attempt to sway public opinion. The goal of both parties is to gain and retain control so why not point out what they perceive to be the faults of the other? If you're a dry cleaning company and your completion has shady business practices and blames all kinds of stuff on you? Why not point out these failings when they arise?

I'd suggest that on the left's part, it's been a not-so-pious quest to obfuscate and hide the truth. Which is even more political.
