Looking for a lease in the southwest rice fields around Jennings and Kaplan area. Anybody know of anything? Max spending is around 3,000

You aren't going to want to hear this, but anyone with an open blind probably had people leave last year because of no birds. If they had birds and someone left a good blind for whatever reason, it would go to friends or family. You stand a very, very good chance of overpaying for a blind with very few birds...

This is what will happen. Unless you know someone personally, you will have a hard time finding a blind that will be worth whatever you will end up spending. Good luck man.

Meh..I know of a few that come free from time to time around the Welsh/ROanoke areas....many times someone finds a "better" or "Bigger" area to lease since they are there regularly and strike up relationships with all of the farmers/hunters around...so most of the time, an blind being abandoned is for an upgrade reason and they are taken before it becomes public knowledge thru connections..
And also, many times farmers decide to quit missing out on all the free money from leasing and put their land out there.
I suggest going out there and spend a day or 2 talking to farmers/workers/locals and many times they will point you in the right direction...it's like a sales prospecting process....face to face works best...unless you look like an idiot

The standard shitty blind Wick is talking about runs about $5000 a year now days.
Unless you have some friends with a great place that have an opening, you are going to get stuck with a mediocre blind at best.
The last one I was on was like that, it had 8 or 9 blinds. First year we were in a terrible blind. Some people left and we moved into theirs. Guess what the new people on the lease got the following year? Our old blind...
That's the way it goes. People don't usually let good blinds go, and if they do it isn't advertised. Someone who has hunted it before will usually step up if it becomes available.

If you are from Houston I would not dream of fooling with trying to find rice pit around here. If you gotta ask how much it is for good pit around here, you cant' afford it. they almost never come open, and if a good one does come open, it usually end up in brother in law deal. Im' not screwing with you, just telling you what I see year in and year out in the part of world. Doesnt' hold birds like it used to
Duck blind leasing in SWLA for most part is a funny scam. Very few rice fields are what I call "good" and they have price of astronomical proportion. I would rather get a cavity search than pay 3-5 grand to sit in a hole in the ground in a field and stare at flights of snows fly over, or even nothing at all. Good luck in your search and may God bless your sole if you decide to pony up for a blind

Hey, close your eyes, hold your nose and jump in. It's only then that you start to make the connections to move up to better blinds/spots. It's not all about killing your limit every time, it's about getting out there.

frick man. I'll just drag my boat to the wax a handful of times and shoot wood ducks the rest.

You can take an awful lot (well...6 or so) of really good guided hunts for that kind of money. Something to keep in mind.

I dropped my lease and started hunting a public lake last year.
My old lease the year before averaged 1 woodie, 2 greys and a random teal each hunt whether it was 1 or 4 hunters.
Went to the lake and averaged 1 woodie, and a couple of greys each hunt. Saved about $1000... and killed about the same.

I like to mix it up in the winter anyway, duck hunt here, deer there, try to make a hunt or 2 with someone somewhere else, rabbit hunt a little, go get some specks in the marsh when the bite's good, sacalait a little. Couldn't put all my eggs into one basket (almost literally ) like that

I was in your boat last year. Just got into duck hunting and was making good money. Figured I'd look to see what it would cost to get a small place or a blind for myself. I realized I'm more of a fisherman . If you find a blind for 3k, don't be afraid to share that info with me.
Best I could find was about $5500 for a blind that you could only hunt Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday and you had to be out by noon. I understand the noon thing, but if I had a blind, I'd like to be able to take a week off of work now and again and go make a hunting trip. I'm not paying that much money to be told when I can go.
