Just in case you want to keep what you have for a little bit longer, you might consider upgrading the RAM. We bought a Sony laptop around 2 years ago, and it was always sluggish. I recently went to crucial.com and ran their upgrade utility. Ended up ordering some new ram to upgrade from 4gb to 8gb. It is like a whole new machine now. Cost was around $100.

Refurbs are not terrible just be aware that they most only come with a flat 90 day warranty. Also it depends who refurbed the machine. Some companies do better jobs others.

I've never had any problems with a new egg refurb. Most of them are new guts with an outer shell of a computer that was returned.

I am a Mac person but I loathe windows 8. I run windows 7 on my vm ware when I am forced to use windows

Here is a HP Pro Book with Windows 7 Professional. Pretty good deal and you can upgrade the Ram to 16G.

I personally wouldn't touch a refurb.

From Newegg? They're just slightly below Amazon on customer service.

I used to work at Micro Center and can say they have hell of good deals on computers. They are like a Best Buy but only better with actual people who know what they are talking about. Sucks is they only have 25 locations nationwide and closest is in Atlanta, Dallas, or Houston.

Yeah, Crucial's "free" memory tool makes them a good bit of money. Those frickers tried to sell me some FBDIMM sticks for twice what newegg had them for. Granted it's not very common but I was just able to get 32G of generic 4G sticks for $200 last week. Crucial would have wanted at least $1200.

I replaced 1 4gb unit with a new set of 2 4gb units. The price was the same as Amazon, about $80 plus shipping.

If nothing else, use the tool and buy from somewhere else for a deal, its a nice utility.
