Windows 8 is the way to go now though

I like windows 8, but I also have a touchscreen laptop with 16gb ram and intel i7 so it runs super fast

Refurbished is cool to buy? Some of the reviews are iffy.
I've bought regurb stuff from NewEgg before, including my current desktop PC. Never had any problems. The processor in that unit is more than twice as fast as the one you're looking at. It's a hell of a buy and it's got a touchscreen to boot.

I've got W8 on a $300 desktop and it's awesome. Fast and easy for my kids to fire up metro apps.

My desktop is probably 6 years old and still faster than some of the newer computers I have used. Going from Office 2010 to 2013 was a big difference in load/lagging time
I am gonna build a super computer within the next year or so, and it will have 7 and 2010 on it

I've always had great luck with HP. I am currently typing this post on an HP desktop I got brand new in 2004. Still works like a charm.

I am on my second straight HP and have loved them. My current one is touchscreen and i7 processor and is sexy as shite. Just expensive.

I have a similar Asus to that one except it's a bit smaller and has an i3. Love it...it's almost 4 years old and has never given me an issue. It does have windows 7 on it which adds to it's awesomeness.

FIFY - I have had others brands, never had problems with HP, just got a new one 4 months ago, very nice, 15" Screen, Quad Core, Windows 8
If I was going Windows I'd do HP

Is windows 8 that bad?
It is like any upgrade, somethings are improved, there are some changes but you get the hang of it.

Just got this computer a while back, loving it. Being able to pop off the screen comes in handy when taking a shite

Windows 8 with a touch screen! I'd recommend Samsung and Sony. HP's and Toshiba's are fine until year 3 in my experience.
If you're used to Apple, I heard they last a while too (5-6ish years).
Regardless, I don't know how much data your computer is going to hold, but get a SSD rather than a HDD hard drive. So. Fast.

I've bought two refurbished business-model Dells from tampa-laptops for about $170. In both cases, the computers do everything needed to be done. Came with Windows 7, but no MS Office. Put Open Office on them instead. Dual core. 2+ghz. My son even edits HD video on his. They're used every day and zero problems (over a year now in my son's case).
