I work on rig, wear Red Wings.
Looking into new boot, what recommendations you got?
I have tried on some Rockys that were pretty nice for only 170.00
Also good brand of muck boots?

I work in North Dakota and I just bought some Doc Martins. Very comfortable.

You know, I've tried a ton of different boots. My current pair are Bates GX-8 Composite toe side zip. I've found that a military style boot is more comfortable for me than a Wellington style boot.

I wear Converse boots. Composite toe, solid leather. And, they feel like tennis shoes.

I just bought a pair of Mud Dogs by Georgia Boots. Really comfortable and they keep your feet dry if you're working in mud and water

Yeah, but the soles don't last very long on them from my experiences.

I work in the office and only have to go to the rigs like once or twice a week so it shouldn't be bad and they should last me awhile.

I have a pair of red wings also and I really like them.
Very good boot imo.
Are you not happy with yours?

Looks like the RED WING 2491 / 2492 would be a good boot for the rig. Havent tried them but the BOA lace up system looks nice.

I've see many roughnecks roll out in a pair of these........last them about 2 hitches and they were back in Red Wings.
I you're doing actual physical labor........you cant beat a pair of red wings.

Until the soles seperate from the main part of the shoe
I wore Red Wings for years. Their QC has gone down horribly over the past 5 years. I went through 2 pairs of the 1170s in an month and a half. Brought them back and got a refund. I do have a pair of logger's boots from them that have hundreds of miles on them(no joke), but they obviously were built before the QC problems.
I only wear USA made boots because of the quality of leather(thicker also) and the ability to be rebuilt. Red wing has no 100% USA made boots now. I would venture to say that since Berkshire Hathaway started buying boot companies, 97% of work boots are made in, or with sutff from, China. Look on their websites for USA-made ones.
Justin gel soled boots are the only answer here. Most comfortable boot I have ever worn, and have held up very well to my abuse. I have been wearing the 4441 boots for almost 2 years now. You might think about getting a composite toe boot though. They are much lighter. Each one of my boots weighs 5 pounds. My only regret with those is that I wish I would've gotten waterproof ones, but the Obenauf's I use does an okay job of keeping them dry

When I was in college and roughnecking (2000 - 2005)
Red Wings were the only boots you could get that would last on a rig.
Lots of guys I worked with tried to switch to Docs or Georgia and they just would hold up.
Those Docs are comfy though if you're more of an office guy.

Tingley steel toe rubber boot
short upper, very comfortable, chem resistant. I wear them when I clean stalls. Horse piss eats through most rubber boots pretty quickly. These have held up well.

The BOA system is great. I wear the 2491 and enjoy them.

Wolverine Contour Welt.
They're good for someone with a wide foot. Comfortable as a pair of sneakers, and they last forever if you oil them from time to time.

Always wore Wolverines. The Javelina were comfortable. Luckily, the last few years for me are behind a desk. Loving my Sperrys!
