Thoughts on Springfield XDs .45?

I'm thinking about buying one for my concealed carry gun. What are the OB's thoughts?

i dont own one but u want one. Very good price for a heck of a package that comes with it. I almosy bought one several times the past 2 months. I carrry a sig p938 and ruger lcp right now. I wanted a larger caliber without the bulky size. the xds 45 meets that!

I bought one and use it for my "truck gun". It stays in it's holster tucked between my seats. As far as the gun itself, atleast for me, it's a very smooth shooting handgun. I also have an XDM .40 and it's the same way. A friend of mine hates shooting them but, for some reason the XD series is comfortable to me.
ETA: I did have to purchase an extended mag to make it comfortable to shoot as the 5 round mag that it comes with didn't suit my hands very well. The 7 round extended magazine is perfect for my hands.

I have had one since about 4 months after they launched it. It is my EDC. I love it. Tucks up nice in a WhiteHat holster. I can easily wear shorts and a t-shirt with no printing. Get the Pearce Grip to give a better grip. When pocket carrying switch to a 5-round mag without the Pearce grip.
The drawback is that it is only 5+1 but I always carry at least 1 spare 7 round mag. If you are concerned about round count get the XDs9 and you gain a couple more rounds. I am fine with the 45ACP.
It does have some kick but it is not as bad as most people would think. The LCP kicks more than the XDs. I would highly recommend it.

I did a side by side when buying my pistol and opted for the Shield instead because it was much slimmer than the Springfield. It's a personal choice.

I am in this same boat. Love mine

I like mine. I'm not sure xds has a wider profile than the shield. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
If the grip (with the 5 round mag) isn't quite doing it for you length wise, you can opt for the pearce extensions. Or just go with the 7 round mags.
Also, if you find the texture of the grip is a bit aggressive, give the Talon grips a try. I have them on mine, and they are great.

It looks great. That's all I can say.

I love mine and carry it daily, most of the time. I've had mine since they came out and zero complaints.

Really? How many ounces would you want a gun to weigh for it to not be heavy? The XDs 45 ACP weighs 21.5 oz empty.

I have one and like it ok. I carry it when i want to change things up and leave the Shield 9mm at home

I have the XDM .45 3.8" and I don't carry it. I have the Pearce extensions for the flush mag, but it's just a little bit too big to carry. The length isn't the issue...it's the thickness. I'm not sure if that bothers you or not. It's a great gun, it's just a little thick for me to carry. IMO a shield would be a better carry-specific gun.

He may be talking about with the ammo.
I think the XDs is a decent handgun but unless you just really love 45, I would give the XDs9 a look too.
1. You get more rounds (which is the most important thing for a CC gun in my mind)
2. You get slightly quicker follow up shots (recoil is a bit more tame)
3. The extended mag holds even more ammo than it does in 45.
4. 9mm is cheaper to shoot.
5. 45 ammo weighs a lot more, so a fully loaded 45 will be heavier than a fully loaded 9mm.
6. 45 is still good too, but for a carry gun I prefer 9mm.
Then again, you may like it either way. Whatever you choose, they are both dimensionally identical. The only difference is the width of the barrel (making the naked 9mm version slightly heavier by an ounce or two).

Looked at the XDS 9 4.0 today and really liked the gun. This is the new version longer barrel which give a little more stability, sight and velocity. At $569 it is a pretty good deal with all the xd accessories. (Extended mag )
Now my problem is I have wanted a CZ PO2 for a long time and now I can't decide if I want the XDs instead. Both fit what I want but the xds would carry a lot easier but has 1/2 the rounds ...

For sure, the 9mm is a fine self defense gun and cc gun. As usually, you've made a nice comparison between the 9mm and 45. OTOH, I was curious as to why he thought the XDs 45 was heavy. Yes, 45 ammo weighs more than 9mm ammo. But when comparing an empty 45 gun to an empty 9mm gun, the empty 9mm (23 oz w/ empty mag) is actually heavier (smaller hole in the barrel and 2 more rounds in the magazine).
Surprisingly, when both XDs' are fully loaded, the 9mm is heavier (albeit not noticeably) than the 45.
Here's the weight comparison, using lighter bullets for both.
9mm= 8 roundsX115 gr bullets=920 gr.
45 cal=6 rounds X 185 gr bullets=1110 grain.
45 ammo is only 190 grains heavier, but the unloaded 45 gun starts out 2.5 ounces lighter. If anyone wants to do the rest of the math, here's the conversion. 1 grain=0.00289 ounces.

That's pretty interesting. But I'm sure that number increases significantly if using 200gr or 230gr rounds.
Regardless, nice observations as always.

I got one with Talon grips. I love it.
