I hope Jim is paying you off handsomely for such a strong defense of his work.
What next, the old family reference or the bar-be que thing?
That's your best shot and you complain about Jim?

I get the nostalgia. He has been the voice of the tigers since I was a child and he IS a legend around these parts. But those who think he's doing a good job need to take the blinders off. He may have been really good once upon a time but how people remember him is tarnished more and more after every damn broadcast.

"That's called strike two and that makes the count 1 and 1."
Jim actually said the above during Friday night's game. I looked at my buddy who came over to listen to the game with me and we both just busted out laughing.

it's embarrassing because his calls have to be edited to make sense for some of the biggest plays in LSU history.
If you are a fricking retard this is particularly true.
Apparently you girls crying about JH fall squarely in that camp.

Then what is the proper way to pronounce the name of LSU's stadium?
ALEC Box
Not Ellick Box
And if you hadn't figured it out after this has been discussed for FIVE PAGES, then you must be borderline retarded. Or a Hawthorne fan.
Look, he's not the worst. Nobody says that. At least I don't. But professionals learn to correct their mistakes after making them for 20 years--not attribute to being "colorful." That's my problem. Would you tolerate a White House Correspondent who couldn't pronounce the names of the politicians he covers? Or calls it the "Wheat House" every time he goes on air?
I mean, I didn't even mention this in my criticisms, but I have driven from the 10-12 split to Tanger Mall without him saying the score. The first thing you learn in radio is that you say the score every 2-3 minimum because people are constantly going in and out of their cars or they were busy tending to their driving the last time you mentioned it.

Still waiting for you to explain why the criticisms on page 3 are wrong.

Hawthorne is pretty awful at times but guys c'mon he's as much a part of lsu now as is mike the tiger. I personally grew up listening to him and every time I hear his voice i get in fan mood, even if that means having to endure some crap calls. No I'm not Jim Hawthorne just an lsu fan. Jack Hunt outttt ps hoppy Easter muhahahahhaha

I'll take hawthorne over verne lundquist and brent musburger any day. Can't believe those are the best CBS and ESPN can find. Seniority is a bitch sometimes.

You poor soul. Wharfe have you been? It has been established many times that Alec Box's family prefers the "Ellic" pronunciation. That's how Franquez says it before the games, too. Is it some kind of dark plot to drive you crazy?
One would think that someone who claims to be a world class journalist would have done a little research. One would have to be beyond a borderline retard to not do a little checking before jumping in.
Let me guess, journalism isn't your current profession?

And then we would be hearing from people like you that saying the score after just 2/3 minutes is boring and stupid.

I never GAF about these threads and always think people are blowing the problem out of proportion. But on the rare occasion im forced to listen to an LSU game rather than watch, it is usually pretty bad and the criticisms are always accurate.

I give up
Hawthorne's terrible and Javi needs to be fired and I'd rather close my eyes for 9 innings and play a pretend game in my head
He's not perfect, I know that... Most people including myself admit it.. But come on... Is it THAT bad?? Are his broadcasts unbearable? Can you name 10 other people that you'd rather do the radio PBP?
If it's that big of a deal, put together a little presentation and email it to the athletics or the PR department

Gray, are you sure about this one? The spelling is Alex, rather than Alec. I have always believed the question was whether it was called "Alex" or "Aleck," and the family preferred the latter. I never heard anything about "Ellick" at all.

How would YOU call a third strike that was called by the umpire ant the batter hadn't swung the bat?
You do realize that the umpire calls every pitch, right?
It's a "called strike three" whether he swings or not.
Would you say "CALLED BALL FOUR" after a walk?
"Here's the 1-2 pitch---- CALLED FOUL BALL."
