Been wondering about this for a while. Seems like a good time given the other thread.

WTH is up with drivers in Baton Rouge that leave a car length gap between them and the next vehicle at stop lights? I travel for work and I literally only see this here in town.

It wouldn't be such a big deal except, when the light turns green and the front car takes off... The reaction time turns that one car length into three and then half as many cars get through on the light. I legit think this is a major cause of congestion on our surface streets. Is this something taught in driving schools here or what?

If you're rear ended and you hit the car in front of you, that car is your fault.

I don't see that really out here that much. I just hate when people do that and because of that they block a right hand turn lane that someone else may want to get in and make a right hand turn at a red light.

I do it sometimes because my car is a manual and I'm too lazy to move up when other cars inch forward.

I generally leave enough space between the car in front of me in case, for whatever reason, I have to get around them. (i.e. stalled car, car jacking, etc)

I was taught in driver's ed to leave enough space to see the bottom of the tires of the car in front of you. Probably for the same reason I do it.

I was also in a city during riots and it came in handy when a bunch of ne'er-do-wells were approaching...

You're suppose to be able to see the bottom of the tires of the car in front of you when you come to a stop.

The more you know.

I don't know what's worse. The people who do that or the people who inch closer and closer to you. How hard is it to keep your foot on a brake?

I bet you drive around here more than anywhere else...come up with any driving/traffic issue and it's likely a problem everywhere.

So I don't hit them if someone rear ends me. It's taught in any defensive driving class

If you can't see the bottom of their rear tires, you're too close.

Leaves enough space to evade carjackers and general riff raff.

To start any thread about baton rouge driving is simple to answer. They are all idiots all of them. Half of our traffic problems are from idiot drivers period.
