MB was awesome...I enjoyed my time there and felt safe the entire time. I made friends with locals, so they acted as my know-alls to being safe and enjoying my time

Staying at Couples Swept Away in Negril and the only place I'm really wanting to go to is Rick's Cafe.

Stayed here before. You'll be good all around 7 mile beach, I'd just carry minimal shite. Nice resort for the $$ though. Bob the baker is gonna worry the shite outta you.

Please tell me someone else has run into "King Louie" on 7 mile beach? Dude is a fricking parasite.

On another note, Donovan Dalrymple usually walks around with his guitar and sings very well. He and his dad (I think hes dead now) are well known artists in Jamaica (for what its worth I guess).

Then you have the cigarette guy - ciiiigarette, cigar, gar, gar....

I remember it like it was yesterday

Good to know. Did you happen to make it to Rick's Cafe?

Me neither. But people like to go to shitholes, stay at resorts, come home and pretend that they experienced local culture. To do otherwise is closed minded.

Why are the whites so scared of everything? Hard to believe we used to rule the world.

Ricks is cool but extremely overpriced and very crowded when we went. Most dont eat there, but we did and it was about $70 for 2 plates.

My wife jumped off of the 35ft cliff.

If you jump, do not let those little frickers in the water take you on a "cave tour", jump and get the hell out of the water. There are local kids that sit on the other side of the cliff and flip off of it for money. They tried to steer my wife into a cave for a "tour" but she told them to get fricked and got out quickly.

The guys up top will want tips, they passed around a plastic jack o lantern to get $20 so one of them would jump off the roof of the cabana.

I stayed in Negril also and Couples provided a bus ride for the resort guest to Rick's. Cool place but the locals were hanging out in the bathroom looking to sell blow to anyone they could. I left my wallet with my wife when I needed to go. The outside bar area was packed with tourists so we felt very safe there.

We stayed in an all inclusive resort, heard all tgese horror stories about leaving resort. Rolled the dice and looked up a local drivet to take us out one day. Best decision we made the whole trip. You will get approcahed but the local told us just say " I'm cool". Nevet felt threatened or uncomfortable. But that is all null and void in Kingston.... DO NOT go there.

or just travel to other countries and experience their less shady "culture"?

I don't know what is worse, the posters acting like if you step foot out of the resort you will be murdered and raped, or the posters acting like it is completely safe and you should have no worries going out on your own?

america is more dangerous than many countries you may deem "shady".

i did not feel comfortable in the Dominican Republic when we traveled off the resort.

I felt perfectly safe at all times in Jamaica. I get what you are saying though. It is good to keep a heightened sense of awareness when you are not familiar with your surroundigs, but this should go for all times and not just when traveling abroad.

i wouldn't. Chances are you would probably be fine, but there are some desperate people over there who wouldn't think twice about robbing or killing some rich white Americans

Yes. A little traveling advice; if it looks like a dangerous area, it is probably a dangerous area

I've been to Jamaica 7 times, last time was in February and I was there for 17 days. I've been to enough places off the beaten path to say yes, in general yes it's safe. And the people I go with have been there 25+ times and they'd all agree with me.You just need to use some common sense, as you would when you travel anywhere. I don't begrudge anyone that's staying at an AI spending their entire trip inside the fence on the compound but the fear mongering is overblown.
