Very disappointing to see a personal hero - a man who faced down actual discrimination to buy in and espouse this terrible rhetoric.

No matter how much success a black man has....he can always blame whitey for his failures.

He's going to tow the party line.

He was a great baseball player but you shouldn't expect him to be part sociologist, part economist, part statistician, and part historian.

Pop culture stars should not be role models, and as a society we would do ourselves some good if we regarded their opinions on everything not related to their profession with the same weight that you would anyone else that is not an expert.

I thought about starting this thread. Aaron talks about his racist letters from fans when he was getting close to Ruth's record. Roger Maris got death threat letters also when he broke Ruth's single season record.

Some people get over personal injustices, and some are like Aaron who just let it fester in their craw. He's been this way forever.

See my sig quote.

As much as I appreciated Aaron as an outstanding player for the Braves, he's an idiot. Clearly he's trying to reconcile the failure of a half-black President by blaming Republicans, never mind the facts.

That's okay by me as I have long compared him to a dim bulb.

Certainly some of the opposition to Obama is related to race, but Aaron was wrong to impugn the motives of all Republicans. Whether we're talking about Blacks or Whites, Republicans or Democrats, Chrisitans or Muslims, etc., I think it's always wrong to lump all people of a group together, though many people on this board do it regularly to people who aren't White Conservative Chritians.

I lost all respect for Henry Aaron 20 years ago. What he went through 40 years ago obviously messed him up pretty bad, because he appears to see racism everywhere to this day.

Like the OP, it pains me to say that, because as a kid, he was a hero of mine, as well.

It's ironic because the Dems do more to hold back the black man and stop him from leaving his situation than the Republicans.

What a shame. Hank was once a symbol of unity. Now he's a divider.

Don't feel bad. Aaron was one of my favorite players, too. But he never was the sharpest knife in the drawer. Even when he was young his lack of education and thinking skills were apparent.

Hank Aaron has never been comfortable with his race. He feels inferior and projects it out onto the world, to people of perfectly good-will. He's a tiny man who once could hit a baseball. frick him and all like him. I'm done with this shite. frick em.

He was a childhood favorite of mine and I can remember what I was doing when I watched him hit his 715th against Al Downing. But I would bet that most of the white men that were yelling stuff at him back in the 60s and 70s were Democrats. Maybe I should read the whole article has nothing to do with what I just wrote but I am sick of all of this crap - so I won't.
