Thought?
Going to purchase my first 1911 in the next couple of days and I'm leaning towards the Ruger. Seems to be the best bang for your buck, and even recommended over some of the more expensive models based on my limited research.
So, anyone have one or another they would recommend for the price point?

Depends what you're going to do with it really. I like it better than the Springfield range officer in that price point. Those are the only two I would consider for $700ish

100% made in the USA, has alot of bells and whistles. Its a very solid 1911 both in performance and value.

Well it certainly is prettier. I would venture to say the RO would be of a slightly higher quality.

The Ruger SR1911 is outstandingly high quality. Most people thought Ruger would cheap out when making their own 1911 but it has been a hit since day 1. It is virtually unbeatable for the price.

Too much writing on the gun and the 2 tone small parts aren't attractive to me. Don't care for the holes in the trigger.
Will no doubt go bang and is probably hard to beat for the price new.

But I can respect it.

Congratulations on being the only person left in the world that doesnt like a skeleton trigger.

Nah, just don't like Ruger's.
As the man said, I'm a traditionalist.

A few Dan Wessons don't have skeleton triggers.

My dad bought one. I shot it.. Then i bought one.
Ive shot $1300 kimber, colt commander, auto ordinance, taurus and ruger 1911's
Hands down best shooter was the Ruger, pretty much tied by the Kimber which cost more than double.
I can consistently hit over 20 yds with this gun.

I've got one and love it. It's an awesome gun, very well put together. Definitely worth the money.

What part of Houston?
Westside look at Tactical Firearms
Northsidewest side Tomball pawn is also hard to beat on prices. Don't be fooled by the pawn shop name they are a gun store.
Or hit up one of the gun shows we have every other weekend between the GRB Covention Center and the Pasadena Convention Center.

Northside. Humble, kw, Atascocita area. Although I would have no problem driving anywhere around Houston for a deal.

Don't know much for that area of town, but the Rugers can be hard to come by. Talked to a guy a couple of weeks ago that went to a Gun show at the GRB and he said he only saw 2 and both were the commander size not the fullsize.
If you do choose to drive a good ways just call ahead and see if they have it.

Get the SA Range Officer (in your price range), its basically a no frills SA Trophy Match made in the custom dept. You can slowly customize yourself. I have a SA RO and have been very pleased. I have made some modifications to it, but it rides the place as my most used 1911 as I dont like banging up the expensive ones so much.
The Ruger is mostly MIM parts if memory serves correctly. If you are a high volume shooter this may be an issue due to possible breakage.
