Casual downtown BR restaurants

I will be in town a week from Saturday with some friends...their band is playing at a venue downtown and the hotel will most likely be in that area as well. I'm guessing we will grab a bite to eat after sound check and would like something close to the venue (Mud + Water). I know the Pastime is across the street but I want a few more options just in case. Suggestions?

Pastime really isn't that good but its right there.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I'd rather take them somewhere good since they've never been to BR before but I haven't lived there in so long that I'm not sure what's even down there.

a quick ride to the chimes, stroubes is pretty solid, or lucy's

I always got the impression Stroube's was kind of nice? The drummer is a little...rough around the edges.

yea then no stroube's. pastime, lucy's, and or a quick ride to chimes would be good for casual dining.

Capital City Grill is right there also. Also have Schlitz & Giggles and Poorboy Lloyd's

Chime's would be perfect if we can leave the trailer at the venue and not have to haul it...it makes parking a nightmare. May just have to do Pastime because it's there. I can't believe there still aren't a whole lot of options around there.
On a side note, what's the best stuff at Pastime? I haven't been there in upwards of 15 years.
Eta: Capital City Grill may be exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks! And if any of you are looking for a super fun show on 4/19, come to M+W. These dudes are awesome.

The best things, in my opinion, are the calzones. I'd go after one filled with crawfish, boudin, crab, or something else kinda off the wall.
The reason there isn't too many options for casual restaurants is that most of the clientele in that area is the power lunch crowd. They prefer a more "upscale" experience. The few that are cheaper are generally open only for lunch.
If you're able to leave and drive a little, The Chimes on Highland, and the restaurants at the Perkins Road Overpass are all good choices (Georges, Chelsea's, Pinetta's, DiGuelio Bros, Pahran's, ect).

I think Pastime is pretty good. They make decent pizzas and fried seafood. And it's an old school Baton Rouge place. To me, Capital City Grill is the definition of "meh".

Agreed, but not sure it's open weekends.
