Where were you when you found out about Wally Pontiff's death?

I remember it was the summer between my senior year of high school and freshman year of college. I was still asleep when my buddy called and woke me up telling me.

I was 15 playing travel ball. In Florida for a baseball tournament. We were out to eat and I remember our coach telling us who heard from his son who was a former player.

Summer btw junior year. And senior year of high school. On my way to work, turned on the radio, heard a press conference on mentionin pontiff. Assumed it was about him going pro.

I remember where I was when I heard about Pete Maravich's passing. Two people came to my office in NY and closed the door because they knew I would be upset.

I was a very young kid at the time. Wally was hands down my favorite player. My dad broke the news to me on the way home from t-ball practice and I remember crying. Sad sad stuff

I was too young, so can someone tell me about this? I do not believe I have ever heard any back story to his passing?

I was in my bed the morning he was found when my brother walked in and said, "Maw Maw just called and said to let you know Wallis Pontiss died... Or something like that"
My response, "Please tell me you don't mean Wally Pontiff"
My Maw Maw knew he was my favorite player.
As a small tribute I changed my number to 31 and I now wear that number on every baseball or softball jersey I have.

I remember hearing about it on the radio driving home from work. Damn it doesn't seem like it's been so long. I forget, what was the official cause of death?

Sitting in my living room. Linda Cohn announced it on SportsCenter.

What kind of macabre post is this?

At a friend's house in Mandeville. We were around 11 at the time and I was in tears. Wally was my favorite player. I wore #31 in baseball every year after that until high school when we could only wear numbers 1-24.
