But I thought no additional taxes would be needed???

Of course, it's only temporary.....for up to 4 years.

Does anyone think the merchants of the retail district along Bluebonnet will like having to charge their customers up to 11% in total sales taxes while their BR competition only has to charge shoppers 9%?

I guaranteed people taxes will raised and was basically told to gtfo. They haven't even gotten the petition done and they're already plotting extra taxes to help them distribute contracts.. I mean to help run a city.

School taxes will be much more, btw. The CATS tax is probably looking more and more attractive now to the Mall of LA and Perkins Rowe.

The whole St. George thing is really a shame. It shows just how desperate the functional middle class of Baton Rouge is for decent schools.

What or why do you have such a huge assed hard on to butt frick the area in question? Your loyalty to your cause is only a tad less than Toddys efforts and postings

After reading the article link, my take is that once SG is voted in then they can begin collecting a 2% sales tax for the new city even though the new city is not in place yet. That way money will be available immediately for a new council to use.

At that time the 2% we currently pay to the parish would no longer be paid to the parish. We'd be just like BR, Baker and the other EBR cities who collect their portion of the sales tax.

The net result would be a 9% sales tax that we currently have.

If this is not the case I and others aren't voting for SG. Everybody knows that.

Am I the only one whose first thought after reading the article was this is Boss Hogg White's idea of an April Fool's joke?

Interestingly, he waited until the last day that bills could be filed to introduce his St George tax increase bill....

Has anybody read the article where Steve Meyers is trying to ruin Southdowns? I'm sure this will get the St. George folks worked up.

Amazon.com fully supports this effort.

Think about it. Do you actually believe this is what the bill will do? You're turning into a hack in regards to SG.

I still haven't figured out if you actually believe all of the nonsense that you post or its simply that you stirred up shite on here once and just feel the need to continuously stir things up on this issue. either way you are pretty ridiculous.

Russian has taken a lot of insults for his opposition to St George. He has presented his point of view, he has not lied and he has backed his case up with facts and links that everybody can independently research. I commend him.

I have friends/neighbors on both sides of this issue. I understand COMPLETELY the frustration of the pro St. George crowd, but I agree with the "unintended consequences" argument of the opposition. And I also am perfectly pleased with my kids education at present within the present school district and would be doing them a parental disservice if I supported ripping their world apart on the off chance that this ridiculously dysfunctional community will suddenly get it's shite together.

I get both sides. I'll live with the results respectfully, whatever they may be.

Does someone have a link that backs up the outrageous interpretation of this proposal that would raise sales taxes to 11%?

This is the link to the bill. LINK

Where does it propose that taxes be raised to 11% or raised at all?

Is that just an interpretation of the language around a continued collection of 2% sales taxes levied by the parish governing body within the bill? If so.....the thread title is dishonest and incorrect.

The article linked in the OP does not appear draw the OP's conclusion that sales taxes would be hiked by 2% to an 11% rate either.

The bill only redirects the 2% going to the city-parish now - it is not a new tax. Central had to do the same thing.
