Do you believe the US will win a World Cup in your lifetime?

Assuming you're around mid 20's and you live to be around
80yrs old, that gives you about 13 chances to see it happen. Will it?

one would like to think it is possible
I wouldn't put any significant amount of money on it though

it's possible, but not likely….
though the concussion issues with football may help push some better athletes for us to pick from in the future, but those European and S. American countries LIVE soccer….

Do I believe that it will? No
Is it possible? Sure

If I was betting something significant, I'd say no.
However, I do believe that we will make a final in that span and if that does come to fruition, we'd have as good a chance as our opponent to be the better team in that 90 minutes, so who knows?

I would be happy just playing for 3rd place at the moment.

we did get closer than people think in 2002. We gave Germany a game and had we won that we'd have had South Korea in the Semis which i think we definitely would have won. Would have gotten creamed in the final but it certainly COULD happen. Don't hold your breath though.

Yes. Each cycle, our pool gets more talented and deeper. I'm 26 and I fully expect to win the WC before I die.

If the current state of our technical abilities is any indication, the knock-out stage is our ceiling, though if we have another golden generation we could push on. We just don't produce the type of player that succeeds at the international level, and the likelihood of us producing that type of player without a complete overhaul of everything we've built so far is infinitesimally small, as is the chance we will overhaul our entire youth structure and philosophy.

i'm sure the same was said about football in the 40's and 50's but look at it now….
things change… hell, America's pass-time is PAST time…. i'm sure back in the 40's and 50's no one imagined a little league like the NFL would end up dominating a short time later…
with many parents now not letting their kids play football due to injury concerns, those athletes go to other venues, one of which is soccer… i'm not saying they will all become Messi's or Ronaldo's or anything, but we WILL have better athletes to select from…. if there's a big emphasis put on the technical aspects of the game in the future here in the states, it's possible to field teams that are in the upper echelon of international teams out there in the near future...

Just wait til we get Pep to be our manager. We'll clinch the World Cup final while still in the Hex.

about American football? Why would anyone say that?
Specifically about technical skills? There wasn't any other leagues to compare it to.
It's not as if other countries will simply stop producing players. Even with our best athletes playing, I'm skeptical given the current state of development of our youth.

I'd say our youth development is much better than it was less than 20 years ago. It's only going to get better as the MLS academies improve and the league itself grows.

i agree with both statements, and address the former in my first post…

i'm speaking specifically about the growth of a less popular sport, at the time, vs. the major sport at the time, and how it adapts to popular choice in America, and how the better athletes infuse that popular choice...

which will happen… add the infusion of immigrant talent and athletes that would have played football if not for parental interference, and yeah… better athletes being taught more advanced technical skill…
not saying we become Brazil or Spain anytime soon, but we are creeping towards upper mid level, and the future looks very bright, in terms of competing on an international level...
