Good for them. I hope everything they are planning comes to happen. As an LSU graduate I want LSU to be #1 in everything. As a Louisiana citizen I would love for the other schools to be right behind us. I think a Fla/Fla St or Bama /Aub rivialry would be great. We used to have that with Tulane.

With that said. LSU is one of 2 school is the country who has an athletic department that is self sufficient. They take no tax dollars to operate. ULL will never be able to do that. LSU will always be the big dog. Will the other school improve..yes, but so will LSU. The gap will not get smaller by much. Tulane has a better chance then ULL because it is a private university in a bigger city.

One last thing, if you actually think this is going to happen anytime soon think again. ULL has been trying for 10 years to be refered to as "Louisiana" and to this day no one outside of Lafayette does.

i agree we struggle to fill the 31K because it is a tough sell to get people excited about Texas State or GA Southern coming to town. I honestly think we would fill 31K easily if we had Southern Miss, La Tech, etc coming in every other year. Please, God, get us out of this awful conference

The major thing about the master plan is the athletic facility upgrade.

Which is great, because the athletic complex looks like shite, except for the Tigue and the softball park. Especially Cajun Field, it looks like shite.

God every fan I hear talk about being #1 is that "we beat LSU". That was their world series. their half of a world series.

ULL can try all they want to improve, but they will NEVER be as good as LSU. It's so adorable that they are trying though.

I could never figure out why some people think that by ULL trying to enhance facilities means that "they want to be LSU." Do they want LSU's success? Sure. Who wouldn't? But if the school is trying to improve itself, then great.

I agree wholeheartedly. I have no idea what, if anything, LSU would possibly have to do with the process or discussion.

Damn, you've been way off your game lately TOG

Lafayette is not a viable threat and they'll even tell you that. it's not like they're ever-expanding while we'll stop growing. We'll always have at least twice their budget, more prominent alumni, more tradition, etc. There is nothing wrong with Lafayette garnering more support and respectable facilities. More importantly that does not mean they are trying to emulate LSU in any way.

This is a really bad post, and it makes us look like insecure pussies

Agreed. And this is where my previous post comes from. I know there are some fans here that want me, along with my school, to "know our place." But to me, "knowing our place" means settling for mediocrity. We aren't LSU by any stretch of the imagination, but still striving to be the best should be embraced rather than frowned upon.

Yep I go to UL and pull for them. I really enjoy when they win, and am lad that they are improving their facilities (even though my tuition will cover it).

There's room in Louisiana for two programs to be good

Never?

LSU would have just as many titles as Alabama since Saban got there if LSU wasn't fricked over by a mulligan

If that one thing seperates LSU from being on par with Alabama, then saying "never" is fricking stupid

But ULL does have better programs going in some sports, like baseball and softball both being better than LSU this year head-to-head.

This is so short-sighted it isn't even funny.

Are you really extrapolating ULL's success in one game against LSU this season as a sign that their entire baseball program is better than LSU's? Really?

LSU is one of only a handful of profitable baseball programs in the country. ULL can only dream of having that. Beating LSU head to head in a mid-week game is nice and all, but let's hold off on the over-the-top kudos until they actually win something and demonstrate higher quality over time.
