Car Won't Start - Repetitive Clicking Sound (OT MECHANICS?)
Posted on 3/22/14 at 11:17 pm

All I get is a quick clicking sound when I try to start my car.
It's completely dead. I haven't tried to jump it off yet.
Any diagnosis from the OT Mechanics?
TIA

or that, but usually this progresses over time, right?

Battery.
Simple check is to turn key to "ON", and try windshield wipers. If they move very slow, you know it's battery.

Battery.
Charge it (recommended) or jump it.

Needs a new Johnson rod. Not gonna be cheap. Any deep bodies of water nearby?

I got 10 good years out of both of them. After that, ticking time bombs.

Clicking? It could be anywhere from bad battery connections to a completely trashed battery, to a bum starter.
Do some testing.

The battery is dead. Have the battery tested to see if there's a problem with the battery or if the alternator isn't charging it.

Dead battery. Get a jump and get a new battery.
How old is the battery that's in it now and do you park outside? What I mean is, is your car in full sun all the time? You don't have a garage or a carport to shade it at times?
Heat is very hard on batteries. Even just when your car is parked in the sun, it's very hard on the batteries. Happened to me before a couple times.
If it was the starter, you wouldn't get anything. No clicking, nothing. It would be like you weren't even turning the key.

Great tip.
Or look at your dome light. If it's very dim, there you go.
