I guess it's a start.

Louisiana welfare recipients will be prohibited from spending the federal assistance at lingerie shops, tattoo parlors, nail salons and jewelry stores, under new limits enacted by state social services officials.
I guess it's a start.

Yes. An entire 3500 households who receive welfare in Louisiana (according to the article) at $192 per month.
And what small percentage are abusing it?
This is the type of nonsense Republicans get many Southerners to vote for them with their identity politics.
"those people"' & 'our taxes"(the whole $192).

Yet, you seem to ignore or forget that a tiny abuse or waste in this program is not an isolated event, and that when you add up all the programs and all the waste, social programs, defense, or whatever, it adds up a very scary number.
But ya, let's just do nothing about any of these programs since each one in a vacuum amounts to nothing.

Welfare spending in Louisiana is $2.7 billion.
3,500 x $192 = $672,000
So somebody is way off.

You got some kind of link for this?

In 2008, the number of welfare recipients in Louisiana was 19,845.
I thought 3,500 seemed laughably low.

One would think this would already be against the law. I thought welfare was for food? Now it's spent on everything else.
Jeezus.

Article was way off. Sorry you believed it. Someone got their numbers messed up.

Your thought process is nonsense.
Stop minimizing waste as it is MY money. It is stealing dollars that should go to the old, young and truly disabled.

Louisiana's food stamp participation rate is 19.3%, which would be (Edited to correct) 700k to 800k, at a minimum, so I'm certain we're carefully parsing the word "welfare" here.

Likewise, there are over 20k public housing units in Louisiana, and that's households, not individuals. Even at an average of only 1.5 per unit, that's over 30k people just receiving housing assistance (and I'm fairly certain this does not include Federal Section 8 - although I could be wrong).
What exactly is this "welfare" that "only" 19,845 are receiving in Louisiana? Just TANF (i.e., money for dope, tattoos, big screen televisions)?

Agreed. The numbers are way off.
Suga, I knew some liberal would come crying about the social injustices of people not being able to spend tax payer money on shite they don't need. My heart goes out to them...

I was just going by the NYT article. I was seeing how 19,000 goes into 2.7 billion, and that would mean $142,000 per person. So that doesn't work.
Then 19,000 at $192 per person is $3.6 million... Nowhere near 2.7 billion.
Unless we are talking specifically about food stamps.

USDA says Louisiana has about 900,000 people participating in SNAP.

900,000 x ($192 x 12 months) = $2.073B which is closer to 2.7B. But that article says $192 is the average for one program. $400+ is the average for the other program cited.

I'm a Democrat, and even I find this
completely ridiculous.

That's what you get for trusting numbers compiled by Malaysian investigators.

If you ever got out and about in your community instead of being nothing more than an armchair political commando you'd understand that it isn't a small percentage. Unfortunately this legislation doesn't do a whole lot because they can cash out the balance on the EBT card. Asking the public to report fraud on these individuals is basically asking them to snitch on themselves.
