Why does the media portray Obama as a huge sports fan?

The yearly presidential bracket has me pondering this.
Obama is made out to be the world's biggest sports fan when he can't name a player off of the White Sox and he isn't athletic at all. (Throwing like a girl, clanking layups, etc.)
He's obviously not the first president to like sports. (If he even does)
Does it simply come down to the black basketball stereotype?

Not in my opinion, it's just the cult of personality.

I'm pretty sure presidents before him did the bracket as well. Even if not, who cares? It's not that big of a deal.

I think him getting alot of public support from many athletes also has something to do with it.

He's a decent basketball player dude, that's the sport he likes. I don't see this as the media doing anything. His bother in law is a major D 1 college coach for Petes sake. Your reaching for reasons now, but why when there's plenty of real reasons to dislike it make fun of him? Is it you're not intellectually independent?

I'll buy that he likes and keeps up with basketball. He's been well documented as being a fan. The others are bullshite.

Nope it's just part of the fabricated image he along with a favorable media have worked hard to create.

Obama is a casual sports fan just like the vast majority of Tiger Droppings posters and readers.
Why the need to CONSTANTLY knock the guy about EVERYTHING? "It's because he's black". Come on now.
He played high school basketball. Is known to prefer ESPN over any frou-frou diplomatic reception. Holds Super Bowl and College Football Championship parties. Enjoys golf and tennis. Okay, so hockey isn't his thing. I love hockey, but how many people from Hawaii do?
There is plenty of stuff to knock him about, Obamacare, the economy, this sports thing is just petty.

His heavily scripted and carefully handled media appearances, especially the ones linkin' 'im to Main Street, are nauseating. That's one thing I will give GWB. At least when he deigned to talk to us common folk, it felt genuine. Obama looks like he's rehearsed each interaction twice and is mentally walking on egg shells, trying not to say something about guns or bibles.

We pretend he has testosterone and he pretends we don't notice he is Our Historic First Transsexual President .

Old tune...
It makes him appear to be a man of the people.

have we really stooped so low that we are criticizing the media for making him a sports fan of all things?

Because it's harder to portray him as a halfway decent President.
