Dude is clueless. There's no point in trying to reconcile what he says with reality.

It was a disappointing year. There really is no way around it. They should have taken a step forward and they didnt.

They're playing in the post season....albeit not what we wanted....I didn't have over inflated aspirations to start with....so I'm good. Next year we def need to make some progression and make the big dance.

Now les stomp that pony azz!!!!

I knew we would have to evolve players but it never occurred to me that we would have to go through this crap for Johnny to learn how to coach.

Pathetic and disappointed.

it was big dance this year or disappointment. They didnt have to be a sweet 16 team but yes not making the tournament with the talent they had is below the standard.

Failing to the make the big dance this year is extremely disappointing. The part that hurts the most is we beat UK and Arky in back to back beat downs and it looks like this team was going to get hot and then we just shite ourselves. I really thought this team was going to be good with the way we handled the ooc schedule. tough loss at umass but then we bounce back and look good in the old spice classic. We gave away the memphis game but then we completely dominated UAB for 40 mins and it looked like we were going to start rolling. Then we lose to rhode island, get whipped by UT and we just never got going in sec play. Our bench disappeared, Jones coaching disappeared until the ice dome. Then with golden chances to lock up the tourny bid we failed. Our d completely fell apart in sec play.

Oh its definitely below the standard....but this is LSU Basketball...nothing surprises me anymore.
We have a long history of under and overachieving...very bipolar.
Besides, I like saving my serious cases of red azz for football anyway.

People need to remember that we were not very deep at all this year. We still need to upgrade the level of talent. Jones is doing that.

After Malik Morgan went down, we were basically playing with 6 guys, though Quarterman has come on a little as of late.

I'll preface my comments with I didn't agree with hiring Coach Jones. I wasn't sold that he was a good enough coach. Good enough recruiter, yes, but coach no. But I am rooting for him.

What I thought would happen under Coach Jones is he would get good enough players, win a lot of games, but still underachieve in establishing LSU as a consistent challenger to UF and UK. I'm more sure of that now after this year. With talented returnees back and a great recruiting class LSU should have won more games simply because they were more talented.

In closing, consider this. Look at Jones' career record at North Texas. Can you name another POWER CONFERENCE program that hired a .500 coach from a MID-MAJOR program?

The thing that seemed to hurt us after we gained momentum with beating UK and Arkansas is that Jones came out of that stretch determined to play zone defense. We went through a three or four game stretch when we played predominately zone. To me, Jones stubborn determination to play zone was a big factor in our inability to continue the momentum gained with those wins.

I will admit the zone worked against UK in Baton Rouge. Largely because Kentucky did not shoot the ball well.

His last six seasons at North Texas he went 127-68. I think that's more relevant than when he first took that program over.

North Texas averaged 5 wins per season in the 4 years prior to Johnny getting hired. I don't think y'all realize the job he did there.

I said this also. Lack of bench strength killed us. Odo and Darcy were not able to give our starting big men any rest and so they were getting worn out game after game. Guard bench was better because we had Andre and sometimes Quarterman. Next year I think we go back to the three guard lineup because we lose one but gain two guards that should be good.

Dawg how long did it take Calipari at UK?
Donovan at Florida they go to the tourney almost every year.
Even Bruce Pearl won pretty quickly at UT.

If he doesn't make the Tourney next year Ben simmons will go somewhere else and then JJ is fired.

I would have to think that as long as Simmons' godfather is on the staff, he's not going anywhere.
