I am as conservative as anyone on this board. To take away anything that these men did is truely disgusting. They are great americans and deserve to be honored .
I'm not taking away from them. I'm saying if they earned it, award it to them without qualifying it by saying they didn't get it because of race. By saying that, you're admitting that they are getting it NOW because of their race. That is a dishonor to them in my opinion.

Awards are very political. I just found out a fellow soldier of mine was awarded a silver star for an IED that blew up on his Bradley killing 3 soldiers in the back. I did the investigation into the incident. His squad leaders were the ones that managed the situation as he was in a half conscious state. Some how he was given the credit for setting up the defense and preventing further loss of life in the second wave of sporadic attack by direct and indirect fire.
Counter that with another soldier that rushed into a burning Bradley under direct fire multiple times to save 3 soldiers and him being awarded a silver star posthumously. I can't see how each of their actions warrants the same award. All I can think is the first is the son of a general that's going places and the second wasn't. Both are great soldiers so don't take this the wrong way. I just don't understand the way the army chose to award them similarly from significantly greater sacrifices and heroism at a specific event.

Yup awards and decs depends on lots of shite, esp if you have a worth of shite chain of command who will put you up for anything.
You can come meeting plenty of people who have not done shite but have a ribbon rack that makes you say wow but others who have done much more but often go unrecognized.

The quote in the OP states that Congress ordered the review.

Plug in either one instead of "black". Your silly semantics aside, the point stands.
Semantics? Come on man, you aren't that stupid. If Obama were doing this for Black soldiers that would change the whole context of the story. Your problem is that you're so obsessed with race that you feel compelled to imbue race into an issue when it's unwarranted.

Should have been DSC, minimum - it was written poorly, or, *gasp* was an E-4 or below.
Sad that kind of BS enters into it, but it is what it is.

Yea its bs, shite in the AF they won't even consider putting you up for a commendation medal unless your an E-5 or above even though you can receive one.

You're too fricking dumb to understand that what I'm saying is just the opposite of what you're implying.
If these men had a legitimate claim on a MOH, then so be it.
But don't go back and cheapen the award by awarding it when it may not be deserved just because of some perceived "injustice" that very likely didn't take place.

This OP, with no service experience saying this, is fricking pathetic. I never served either, bit I'm not gonna get pissy bc the black man in office is someone I just don't like.
These people deserve their medal. You're fricking rancid for thinking otherwise. And if you believe they deserve the medal, change your post.

No, I'm critical of the President who sees fit to award these men retroactively for political reasons.
But this is just another example of what he has done to this country.
You & the OP are critical of the President because you're ignorant .
I am 99 . 9999999% sure that Obama cannot determine who gets a Medal Of Honor.
This was part of the 2002(No Obama) Defense Authorization Act for the MIlitary to review Jewish & Hispanic veterans records to recitify MOST(can't make it all right) of these injustices.
The Military (not Obama) awarded these men the Medal of Honor.
Obama made a phone call ,sent a pretty invitation & presented the damn award.

Go frick off. Seriously.
You couldn't hold any of these men's piss.

I can assure you, that if these gentlemen were upgraded to the MOH, then they received, at a minimum at the time of their heroism, a DSC or Navy Cross.
The question is, what criteria was used to upgrade those awards?
Why HASN'T Richard Winters had his DSC upgraded? People have been fighting for that one for years.

Trackfan, Obama is doing nothing but presenting the awards given to those soldiers by the Military This was authorized by Congress in 2002 & the military reviewed it's records of those Jewish & Hispanics(especially) & gave the award.
20 were Jewish or Hispanic & 1 of the other 4 Black or 'other'.
Sad ,( but not surprised here)that the hate for Obama has come to this.
