Glad to see some lefties giving props to the military. You've come a long way since some of your ilk tried to prevent the VN War Memorial. I've long said one of the benefits of having a Dem President is the left won't shite on the military for a while.

You don't think race has been an issue in the past?

You don't think that it may have influenced the award during WW2? Vietnam? Korea?

I can assure you, that if these gentlemen were upgraded to the MOH, then they received, at a minimum at the time of their heroism, a DSC or Navy Cross.

Well that was a prerequisite

And you'd win that bet, smart guy. I served in the 90s.

Nevertheless. I'm not some civilian throwing out an opinion.

true, but this doesn't apply to the time period you served. It applies to WW2, Korea, and Vietnam

I don't disagree that race shouldn't be an issue, but it would be foolish to believe that is hasn't been in the past

I don't get how the Medal of Honor is awarded. My great grandpa received the Medal of Honor for his service during WWII.

He was a pilot and was on an escort mission over Japan. His plane had a fuel leak and wouldn't have enough fuel to get back, but he stayed. They were attacked by the Japanese. He shot 5 of them down covering the bomber they were escorting. Then his engine got shot and he had to bail.

He was in the water for hours before he was picked up by some tribesmen and they nursed his wounds as best they could and he stayed with them for a few days before help could come get him.

Now, that was pretty heroic... but how is what he did awarded a MOH and a soldier who is safe climbing back in a burning vehicle to save his men while getting 3rd degree burns on 90% of his body and ends up dying not awarded the MOH?

I don't get it.

Black units were predominantly service and service support units. The relatively few combat arms units saw limited combat with few exceptions. It is one of the unfortunate truths of America's past. The military used to fight WWII discriminated against blacks. According to one well respected source, only 708 blacks were killed in combat during WWII.

Some of these are legitimate issues where, because of race the medals awarded were downgraded.

I skimmed and didn't see this link but i'd say at least from what i've seen these guys were first class people and did some tremendous things. Here is the story of one of the only black guys that received the medal for those of you saying it's about race.

These people deserve their medal. You're fricking rancid for thinking otherwise. And if you believe they deserve the medal, change your post.
I'm "rancid?"

A lot of people deserve the honor. Why just these guys? What proof of racism or discrimination do they have? Answer - ZERO. So, today was just another race-baiting "injustice" that exists only in the minds of liberals and your dipshit president.

And I'll post whatever I want. For hopefully the last time, I repeat that it's not about the soldiers. It's about the race-baiting president and his class/sex/race war mentality.

So frick off.
