Next to impossible to name 3 at the top. In addition to all those already named, let me add :

Mark Farner

Jeff Beck

Junior Brown

Alvin Lee (10 Years After)

Vince Gill

I know most of these are not in "Hendrix" class but they deserve mention.

And just for a little bonus, here's some real raw meat to chew on:

(three is tough to narrow to. So many guitars have a huge influence on my playing)

Eric Krasno

Interesting. Funk is one of my favorite genres but I have a hard time calling Krasno elite. He is a great player no doubt, but his solos are underwhelming. He is fantastic at riffs, but that is to be expected of a funk guitarist.

Can't get enough Anders.

Been trough some tough shite this past year and Anders' music really helped me.

I've seen the Kraz a lot in the recent years and from what I've seen the guy always brings it. Everything he plays is so firmly in the pocket. Not the most innovative player I grant you, but the guy has such a nice touch with his axe that it sets him apart from a lot of other players IMHO

I can always tell when its the Kraz playing when I hear him the same way I can identify BB King, SRV, Zappa, Jerry, Trey, etc

Without BB, Albert and Freddie a lot of guys on these lists wouldn't have had a career

That may be, but that still doesnt make BB King a freakin guitar master. He's an original blues player. He's pretty much the exact opposite of a guitar master. He's got one tone, one lick, and one style and he sits in it. I will never understand the BB hype when there are far superior players that have come and gone. Hendrix, although not nearly as good a player as some of his predecessor's, was still a master. He did things with the guitar that no one had done before, had pretty good/great chops, and was an absolutely fantastic songwriter. He pioneered rock music. He fits the "guitar master" definition more. Definitely not BB King.
