I agree with you. But the problem is that after Putin is done in the south, his gaze will probably turn to Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia. We will have already shown him there's no real price he'll pay for expanding his growing empire so it's very possible he will make a move in the Baltic. That's what will lead to war.
You know he probably wants to reestablish a land route to Kalingrad eventually so I would look at the Baltic states soon.

No. We didn't go to war with Russia over Hungary in 1956, Czechoslovakia in 1968, Afghanistan in 1979 (besides proxies), or Georgia in 2008, when Russia sent tanks and regular soldiers into its neighbors.
This isn't about Obama being weak; otherwise that makes Eisenhower, Reagan, and Bush equally suspect.
I refuse to believe we got through 40 years of the Cold War only to go to war with Russia 20 years after the fact based on historical behavior.

I don't follow. Even if they were the same, what point are you trying to make by drawing their equivalence?

Patton may have been right. We should have settled this back in the 40's when we had the chance.
Ultimately, this rinse and repeat of the war cycle, peace cycle benefits the military-industrial complex.
Even Ike warned us of them.

If you think a cost strapped, budget minded military that is exhausting resources in the Middle East can handle full blown war with Russia, you're crazy. It would have to be a coalition of nations joining the fight.
We spend about 7.5 times more than what Russia spends on our military, and for about 30 years we have been buying vastly superior stuff.

No. Neither Obama or our next president is going to declare a new war after 13 or more years of fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan–with, I'm sorry to say, very dubious results (hardly the fault of our brave troops, to be sure). The key here is not the U.S. but Europe, which has far closer and more significant ties (read: gas, oil, commerce, etc.) to Russia than than has the U.S.

And we have another problem in downsizing our military so we can't do much but huff and puff anyway.
Don't worry. If it comes down to nut-cutting, we can draft all these strapping lads to fight. Knowing this will keep Putin from going too far.

The Russian military is dogshit. Their equipment is junk that doesn't work and it has been neglected for the last 20 years. They have a few good units that are properly equipped but not many. What they do have is numbers, but even that is suspect because they are low paid conscripts.

Putin coming into his house and screwing his wife wouldn't do it for him.

More than raising a flag in a land on the other side of the earth. Comparisons to Nazi Germany are ridiculous because of the ethnic cleansing that was going on, Putin has just said "Hello neighbor". If it's this big of an issue, let the brits/france/germ/poles/vikings deal with it. He's made no threats to us, just called our bullshite governments bluff because they're trying to rattle a saber thats made of toothpicks after getting our asses whipped in civil wars for the last 60 years.

Germany invading Czechoslovakia wasn't our business either, until well, they became our business and they had to be driven from North Africa through the entirety of Europe. Yeah, then it was our business, and what a business it was too.

I think they have learned their lesson.Obama told he would be disappointed in them if the continued. That oughta back em down.

Crimea wants to be apart of Russia. Let them. Could you imagine if there was a part of Canada on the border that overwhelmingly wanted to be apart of the US and voted to join the US so we sent troops in and then Russia got all pissed off and started talking about sanctions against us? It makes no sense.

Yep, the Russians have never been involved genocide. Oh, wait . . . the did it in the Ukraine!

You do realize that this was the identical reasoning in America that got us into WWII, and that caused us to have to lose so much men and material in recapturing all of Europe and North Africa in the process?
You could have said this in 1938 here and America would have said "AMEN".
Not so in 1942

So if Alaska were to suddenly say they're disgusted with the US and join Canada, that would be reason to start WW3?
Oh wait there's oil there that democrats don't want anyone to touch because of dear mother earth, so yes. It would.

War with us? No, not inevitable yet.
War with Europe in general? Yeah, I'd prepare my a-hole if I'm them.
Putin's making noises about the "illegitimate" breakup of the USSR and how it was a mistake for Kruschev to give the Crimea to Ukraine.
If I'm in any former Soviet republic or Warsaw Pact country, I'm shitting bricks right about now because it's the Ukraine today and probably somewhere like the Baltic states tomorrow.

Might want to brush up on your definition of genocide as it relates to the Soviets and Germans. Just because you don't drive humans into gas chambers like cattle doesn't mean you don't do the exact same through other means, again, never to be seen or heard from again.
