If you have a family and there was only 1 intruder you'd have a greater chance of shooting your family member..

Not after he's asked to leave. AT that point he has to comply or he becomes an uninvited intruder.

So you are saying that if in Texas, you get into an argument with someone in your home and that person pushes you, you have the right to kill them because you are in your home in Texas.

don't be dumb enough to fight someone in their own home.

I can promise you this was not a home invasion. The boy was certainly let in this home.

You don't know that.

I'm interested to see how this works out from a legal standpoint if the daughter let him in without the father's permission.

Ruining HIS life? How about the dead 17 year old?

Exactly what I'm getting at. Taking a life over the kid coming see your daughter is stupid. Now I see the stupid arse girl claimed not to know him. This story just sucks and that girl sucks the worst.

If these facts are true and the daughter really denied knowing him, then the Dad should fricking walk. You then have to your knowledge a man in your daughter's room reaching for something you have no idea what he's reaching for.

Having kids carries a risk IMO. If the daughter says it wasn't mutual then admits it was then either the daughter or the dad has to account for the dead person. The minor without the gun probably lives with the guilt and the adult with the gun goes to prison.

ETA: if he was in bed with his daughter

The way the story reads the 17 yr old didn't break into the home.

Don't always believe what you read in the media. Make sure you do some digging before making any decisions.

"Officer, a noise woke me up. I got my pistol and went to my daughter's room to check on her. There, I found a strange man that I was previously unaware was in my house. I challenged him, and a struggle ensued. I feared for my life and the safety of my family. I would like to speak with my attorney now, please."

If the daughter goes along, give that to a prosecutor and see how eager he is to pursue it.

You're missing out on the key part of the story. "kid was asked to leave and did not comply."

Depending on what and how this non-compliance happened the dad and daughter may both walk.

Daughter and Father should face some charge if no weapon was found. Perhaps he was going to put his pants on.

Was it dark...

With castle doctrine he's in the clear.

To be honest, if I lived in a house full of women, get up to take a leak, and see a man in the house, he's getting put down hard. And in louisiana...thsts legal.

A bad situation here in that the daughter probably let the kid in.

reports here in Houston are saying that her brother discovered the guy in the room, went and told dad, and he came to investigate with gun. Daughter told dad she doesn't know the boy. This is so messed up if true. A kid is dead because this guys daughter lied. I dont belive the part about the kid reaching for something, makes it seem to justifiable in my opinion. Father probably acted just on daughters words and shot the kid. Once the daughter confessed to actually knowing the teen killed, thats probably when the father started having his "medical event" because he realized what he had just done.

Thas my initial take

If he was creeping along the hallway, maybe, but if I went into my daughters bedroom and it was obvious they were in bed together that's different.

Exactly. She should be the one going to the joint over this. She basically told her dad to execute the kid, rather than own up to being a whore.

You people are crazy. You can't kill some teenager because you're pissed your daughter is putting out.

Uhhh he was in the man's house uninvited by the homeowner hooking up with his underage daughter and got in a physical fight with him.

This is in Texas. The dad walks.
