Hope he steps up and locks the position down.

Welter is terrible

C'mon man. While he isn't extremely athletically gifted, he gives high effort on every play, and is a good supporter/representative of the team.

He's average, which admittedly won't cut it if you want to win championships. But he's a hell of a lot better than Karnell Hatcher

Edit: I know that comparison isn't saying much, since a dachshund would be better in coverage than Hatcher was.

He's gonna be a hybrid. IMHO a rush lb that will line up with his hand in the dirt from time to time.

I dont think the coaches want to be that predictable. If he plays middle,he learns the full array of plays responsibilities

Average is a compliment to Welter. I'm sorry but the dude just cannot play. He gets blocked out of plays like nothing, can't cover anyone, slower than a snail and he constantly takes terrible angles. I pray Beckwith gets the nod at MLB.

He is worse than Thomas Dunson.

How dare you people slander the QB of the Defense. Welter has forgotten more about football than any of you know.

In fact, it helps that he is so forgetful. It keeps him from beating himself up for missing so many tackles.

Let's hope he can make that transition, it's not his natural position coming out of high school. Bashing Welter is getting old here, everyone knows he is undersized and can't shed blocks why keep dogging the guy. One thing one of these posters got wrong is he is not that slow, and he did actually make a few plays every now and then. Though most of his tackles were made with him on his back.

Anyone that paid attention to Kendell in high school would tell you that he was a terror at MLB for the opposing offense.

I agree with almost everything in your post, but I'm mystified by the almost universal opinion on here that Welter can't cover. He covers very well. Beckwith can play that position for three years, and he still might not be able to cover like Welter. Run support, now, that's a different story.

I wonder if they are thinking about sliding Garrett over. That's what I thought might happen when he signed because Beckwith has to be on the field somewhere, too much natural talent.

He's not really being dogged, just calling a spade a spade. The guy is not a D1 starting caliber MLB, much less one for a team like LSU.

FWIW, I haven't laughed so hard during a football game as when Welter was sacking JFF last year. Johnny would fake twice and Welter would just keep doing a karaoke towards him. Unjukeable!
