MDT should accept that things are so bad right now, that people are going to leave. Then, as a true supporter of Baton Rouge, he should roll up his sleeves and work to solve the problems that exist in Baton Rouge that relate to education and crime.
Money, you act as if none of this will affect you, and you're wrong. It will. You're just head long into the sickness like every other cockamamie half thought out scene this place conceives of, be it BR or the parish itself, those that you jump into, and then start thinking "Oh shite, did someone pack my parachute properly?" I've seen this same kind of "Hey, I got an idear" nonsense all of my life in this area when I've lived here, and it's always half thought out reactions to problems than any kind of plan involved. It's just like everything here, half assed reactionary nonsense to problems than proactive solutions long term. That's because nobody ever concerns their little heads with that, and why we're always about 30 years behind the eight ball on every single thing you can think of, and by the time a road is four laned, it's already needing to be six laned. When the rest of the country is taking back their urban areas, Baton Rouge is moving further and further out. That isn't a Baton Rouge epidemic. The stupid doesn't begin and end at city limits signs. It's a frickin way of life here, but rather than recognize that and change directions, it's head long into the brick wall one more time. Surely this one should do it.
Furthermore, I'm not a one man army. I'm only accountable for myself and where I stand and what I do, as are you.

Wat.
You understand my point. I guess it all depends on your definition of roughly.
Focus on the meaning.
Roughly... alot. A bunch.
The unincorporated part.

Then what the hell makes you think you're going to have the time to help build the brand-new system you are advocating for?
Trust me, that will take a lot more work than you SG people think. It's not going to magically happen.
And we've already established that the community doesn't take too much of an active role already.

That rant is the worst thing a person who opposes St. George could say. He is not helping his cause at all.

People that truly care about their kids' education relocate or send their kids to private school.
The schools those kids do attend have an active community.
Why would this not be the case if you could keep those same families in SG?

What I continue to do, and speak about often on here, buy local, and from locals who also support other local business and industry, and care as much as possible about where I live. If I leave, I promise you, it won't be for SG, LP, or AP. There's absolutely nothing there that I would value and couldn't find in any other place much better, nothing whatsoever. It will definitely be for a much better place to live and people who really care about their own community. But until then, if and when that day comes, I'll continue to do what I believe is in the best interest of this community where I live.

Well I never stated that I didn't have time. It is due to independence issues with my profession. Don't go jumping to conclusions, princess.

Keep preaching, brother. Meanwhile, nothing is getting done. You don't even have a viable plan to solve the problems.
The proposed St. George incorporation solves all of the problems being discussed. It is not a guarantee of success forever, nor does it prevent problems from popping up down the road. I think people understand that, and wholly accept that the long term success of St. George will be dependent on continued effort and commitment.

Spending money at a local grocery store or eating at a local restaurant doesn't change the fundamental issues you describe.
Truthfully, it's hard for anyone to change a whole system. And therefore, there isn't much of an incentive for them to try.
I respect that you feel loyalty to BR and hope truly hope that you can change it.
But, you have to admit that it's hard to blame someone for looking out for the best for his/her family.
When presented a choice between fixing a whole system or choosing private school/moving.... the decision to go private school or move is easier and more effective of the two options.

What is your implication here as to why St. George people don't take much of an active role?

Yes it does. They ARE the community. They have a vested interest in it being maintained whereas your national chains see you as nothing but a tit to suck on and when it no longer gives suck like it once did, they'll just move on to a new titty and leave you holding the bag.

We show up to vote. Why? Because we know that the voice of the people is simply a bunch of responsible, or what should be responsible, voters making their vote count. If nobody with intelligence shows up to do what is right, then stupid wins and stupid takes over. Who's fault is that, and if you want to change the face of politics, how do you do it but through education, standing on sound principles on a personal level and being accountable for your personal actions?
Want the area to not look like a place to litter, get the people to stop littering, starting with thyself first.
Want the place to have more local restaurants and artisans, shops, etc? Stop funding people from out of state, throwing jingle at the city and state rather than cash by keeping our wealth more local. It's simple shite here.

And the more people who realize this and move in instead of away, the more we can facilitate that change in our community.
